1129284 2010-08-18 21:44:00 Has anyone tried these USB Freeview capable sticks?

For general work running Windows 7 x32, how does a single core these days fare with 2GB RAM?
How do they for instance compare to a Netbook afaik is a Dual Core.

1129285 2010-08-18 23:46:00 You'll be able to record without too much problem. Tuners don't use CPU - just disk. Unlike the old analogue days where the broadcast stream was converted to an MEG2 file - the digital cards take the broadcast stream and dump it to disk.

Playback, however, is a completely different issue alltogether. Unless you've got a H.264 decoding GPU and a probably capable of using the GPU you wont be able to playback files from DVB-T.

You might be able to find a DVB-S usb tuner, which is mpeg2 and therefore if you have a DVD capable system you should be able to playback.

They do use CPU 'bandwidth'. If you can get GPU acceleration supported, it reduces the load on the CPU but it still uses some.

And the GPU is only involved in playback, not recording.
