1128029 2010-08-15 21:05:00 For some reason I have been unable to burn anything on my Asus DRW 2014 L1T burner the last week. Error codes include error 22 and "can not complete the strategy ....". At the same time I also have a CIF Single Chip "not installed" in the System/Hardware page.

I d/l'ed new firmware for the burner, but I still can't get it going - it burns the disk but before completion stops and thrwos the error codes.

Any ideas? Burner stuffed?

Win XP

1128030 2010-08-15 21:22:00 What program are you using?? And what are you burning to?? cd or dvd? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1128031 2010-08-15 22:27:00 What happens if you try a different brand media?

As Speedy mentioned, what are you trying to burn, and how are you trying to burn it?

1128032 2010-08-15 22:48:00 Did two or three different burns, using different programs (that worked beautifully in the past). Programs used : ConvertXtoDVD (converting an .avi and trying to copy a DVD), Sonic (same as above, and tried to copy one of my music CD's) and some which the name now escapes me (I'm getting a bit old) - I think all the programs showed the same problem - could not finish it, with error codes. Tried different media, although the same media two weeks ago had no problems (Tried three different brands, same problem).

So, burnt to CD and DVD, using the "standard" settings (I never fiddle with any settings, I just press Start or enter or whatever).

I could redo everything and copy the precise error codes but most errors pointed to error 22 on the DVD burner, as well as the strategy not being able to be completed. I abit above my head, obviously.

1128033 2010-08-16 01:27:00 The other programs I used : ImgBurn, DVDShrink (not so much), DVDFlick (not so much), and DVDFab (not so much)

1128034 2010-08-16 01:30:00 Try 2 different types of media using Imgburn. Just a straight write, no conversions or anything.
If that fails on both then ditch the drive.

1128035 2010-08-16 01:41:00 Are you burning from file to CD or DVD, or burning from a CD or DVD?

Are you trying to burn to the same "like" media? ie CD to CD or DVD to DVD, not DVD to CD??

1128037 2010-08-16 20:37:00 PCtek - did that last night on all the programs I use regularly. I got the error message - from the DVD (not the programs) ;

"A write issue has occurred in the middle of burning. Some possible causes : disc faulty, burning speed to fast, burner has mechanical issue". I sit with quite a few coasters now (lol).

This morning, however, I could not do anything - the burner is still recognised by XP, but it does not want to respond at all or open up, not even to play a music CD. I thought I detected a faint smell of something odd, e.g. that smell you get when you fried a mobo with static electricity (not a burning smell, something else). Soooo, I think it cr*pped out.

This burner (Asus) gave me real good service the last few years, and I would like to get one just as reliable. I probably won't go for another lightscribe model. Any suggestions that would not hit the pocket too hard?
