2010-01-11 04:58:00 | The law says I can't speed. If I tell you I sped on the way home, and didn't get a fine (even though your site says I HAVE to get a fine) would you call me a liar? The officer on the side of the road must have a degree of discretion. I flew into Christchurch after a 5 week stint in WA where I was on the road day after day, there the open road speed limit is 110 verse the 100 in NZ, flew into Chch, hired a car and half hour later got pinged by a Highway Patrol doing 110 south of Christchurch, set on cruise control. Showed him my bunch of various driving licences, explained that I had just got off a plane after 5 weeks in WA where the speed limit was 110, that my mind was still set to WA, we had a quick chat including the weather and then he said have a safe trip, just remember I was in NZ and that the speed was 100. He didn't even run a check on me. So, while I was speeding under NZ laws, I must have had a good explanation and he used his discretion in the matter.

2010-01-12 16:04:00 | If the Act and its related Laws are written with this sort of basic misspelling of words, then they will struggle to hold up in a court. true, but the Act isnt I find it hard to belive that some can be so ignorant of basic laws, which leads me to conclude that they post in this foolish manner to read the replys. As stated else where I only check spelling if it is serious or important this thread ceased to be that some time ago.:)

2010-01-12 17:04:00 | I was exercising due care while driving dangerously, maybe that's why I got a phone call a week later with the cop telling me to be more careful next time, and he even had a bit of a laugh about it. And don't accuse me of lying. All you've done is post bs from your ass as well as searching some keywords to a site that isn't even official NZ Transport. I've told you two personal experiences. Nothing beats that. Bet you don't know a single person who has been caught driving dangerously. Just because the law says so, doesn't mean it has to be that way. The law says I can't speed. If I tell you I sped on the way home, and didn't get a fine (even though your site says I HAVE to get a fine) would you call me a liar? I give up with angry. Please grow some brain cells. With regard to brain cells please take some of your own advice. And just for you www.transfund.govt.nz Necessary excerpt for everyone else: Reckless or dangerous driving [sect 35] Imprisonment for up to 3 months, or a fine not exceeding $4,500, or both, and disqualification for at least 6 months Reckless or dangerous driving causing injury to or the death of another person [sect 36] Unauthorised street or drag racing, or unnecessary exhibition of speed causing injury to or the death of another person [sect 36A(3)] Imprisonment for up to 5 years, or a fine not exceeding $20,000, or both, and disqualification for at least 1 year Careless or inconsiderate driving [sect 37] Unauthorised street or drag racing or unnecessary exhibition of speed [sect 36A(4)] A fine not exceeding $3,000 and discretionary disqualification Careless or inconsiderate driving causing injury to or the death of another person [sect 38] Imprisonment for up to 3 months, or a fine not exceeding $4,500, or both, and disqualification for at least 6 months Causing bodily injury to or the death of another person by carelessly using a motor vehicle while speeding or overtaking or driving on wrong side of road [sect 39] Imprisonment for up to 3 years, or a fine not exceeding $10,000, or both, and disqualification for at least 1 year +++ I know of severall people over the years that have lost licenses for among other things dangerous driving. Being a good westie figure out the logic of this, we never could. Hillman hunter with teeny boppers in it, runs out of fuel in the outside lane off the NW motorway heading north, when it was all unlit in the 70"S. Teeny boppers get out and continue to push Hillman hunter up the OUTSIDE LANE OF THE MORTOWAY completely covering the tail lights, the lights on the car had also been turned off, Friend going home at 3 am (app) runs into the back of them, because he could not see them, until it was too late. more than one of them unfortunately die, and at least one of the others is crippled for life. Driver of striking car was not: speeding, drunk, or drugged. We could never really figure out what he had done wrong (in regard to a driving offence). He was disqualified for 2 years and had to resit all his licences. The charge: Careless use of a motor vehicle resulting in death and injury. The core element of the prossecution case: The driver failed to exersise due care, and take prudent, preventative action. Several years later we shared a house for a while, just before he died in unfortunate circumstances. (Not involving a motor vehicle) Thou shalt not speak ill of the dead. :(

2010-01-13 10:48:00 | More to this than meets the eye what was he doing driving at 3am . Why didnt he see things, his car would have had lights something fishy here, don't believe a word of this. At 3 am, he was coming home, perfectly normal activity, yes he had 6 volt lights, yes the car had a warrant. as previously stated, straight, and sober. We had real cars and motorcycles then and did not need to be druk and drugged all the time to enjoy our selves. Also when you car is a serious extension of your persona you tend to look after it better and not drive under the influence, after all you may damage it, and parts for such vehicles were not easy to get locally even then. Sourceing used parts from the us was a long and tedious affair, involving much letter writeing (Not a masculine activity at all). Time much better spent at the beach with girls. Try the herald and old Auckland star archives circa 1977 app. Was very well reported at the time. "Thou shalt not speak ill of the dead" includes lying about them. Do not judge me by your modern, unethical, unprofessional, and immoral standards thak you. Reals westies do not travel in Japanese cars.

2010-01-13 22:10:00 | Well it seems your old buddy in his perfect old American car that he looked after with his sober face on was just plain stupid if he crashed then. | --Wolf-- (128) | |
2010-01-13 22:16:00 | Well it seems your old buddy in his perfect old American car that he looked after with his sober face on was just plain stupid if he crashed then. Funny I was thinking exactly along those lines myself. You would have to pissed or distracted to crash into someone in front of you on a straight road there is no other logical explanation. The young people pushing the car is a red herring, if it was a bunch of pensioners pushing the car the outcome would be the same It was me I would take the punishment metered out and stop blaming the world.
