847016 2010-01-08 20:56:00 My Father was an ambo driver in England for 35 years the stories he tells of dickhead car drivers doing crazy stunt's in front of him are truly scary
Some drivers find it hard to do rational things when their senses are bombarded by noise (sirens) and lights (flashing).
To call them dickhead is totally unfair.

You keep trying to apply US: LAW, STDS, VALUES, to this country. In your desire to have a rant about Americans in general, you seem to have overlooked Joe's statement "here in the US". Joe is talking about American laws, not NZ laws or how NZ should follow US laws. You are living up to your username.

Some people here think Joe is the representative for his country so it is OK to direct a rant to him about his country. It it is unfair to take out your feelings or opinions on him. How would you like someone to have a go at you just because you are a New Zealander and they don't like New Zealand?

I note that some people in NZ appear to be driving while deafened when an emergency vehicle is on the road.

May be due to the very loud music in the car and also a number don't seem to use a rear vision mirror.

847021 2010-01-09 00:41:00 They should see the flashing lights have to have pretty good car sounds to block out a siren noise.
Dont expect car drivers to be like truck drivers who are manically looking into their vision mirrors every few seconds.

The "number" is a large one, unfortunately.

Another good reason to require all motorvehicle licence applicants to ride a motorcycle for a couple of years before being allowed to drive a car.

A motorcyclist who doesn't use the rear vision mirrors constantly is not a motorcyclist for long (often because they accumulate speeding tickets faster, not knowing who's following them :))....

And once you're in the habit, it's amazing how much better driving is for everyone. (I'm especially thinking about slow vehicles on the open road that won't pull over where they can - one of my pet peeves.)

847023 2010-01-09 00:55:00 You are dead right about riding a motorbike sets you up for life in driving a car. Yep if you saw a black and white in the mirrors you could sometimes outrun them a Norton Commando used to eat those HQ Holdens laden with extraneous ****. prefect (6291)

A long time ago I was told to treat everyone on the road as an idiot.
I still do which is why I'm still alive.
