Tel Aviv and Jerusalem airports dont handle anywhere near the volume that JFK/La Guardia and Newark do its impractical to think that an Israeli approach can be adapted in the US easily. For e.g. the article talks about how whenever a car pulls up, the driver/passenger are asked questions. This is OK when there's only a few thousand cars coming in and a small number of entry points but anyone who has ever been to JFK will tell you how impossible this would be there. There are certain elements that are extremely sensible but the whole system is impossible to replicate. |

2010-01-06 12:50:00 | I think 1967 the isrealis attacked first and in 73 the Arabs attcked first to get land occupied in 67. If I am wrong I am sure someone will point it out. In 67 the Israels carried out a "preemptive defense strike" to thwart an, obvious, building, "multistate Arab attack" In 73 "Yom Kippur" Israel was FORCED BY THE US to wait until the Arabs attacked. Because world Opinion lead by the anti-Semitic French and Russians would not countenance another "preemptive defense strike which would have resulted in another resounding Arab defeat. The end result of Yom Kippur was of course another resounding Arab defeat. This lead to the change in the position of Egypt, and the first real steps to some form of peace in the area since the 1948 Arab attack failures. :annoyed:

2010-01-07 08:24:00 | The 73 Yom Kippur war was launched by the Arabs on a Jewish Religious Festival, the equivalent to the Soviet Eastern Block attacking NATO on Christmas Day - in fact this attack caused NATO in West Germany to have an full Taceval nucleaur alert on Christmas day, to ascertain how effective a response could be made such an attack on the West. Israel is all too aware that there is no silver medal issued for coming in second in a war - for the turn the other cheek brigade and Israel bashers - What would you do if you were in their situation.

2010-01-07 08:38:00 | So the 67 attack was pre emptive by israel and the Arabs started the 73 war. With attitudes like this there is little wonder there is no peace in Palestine.

2010-01-07 08:49:00 | So if the isrelis do it its ok, Arabs do it its a sneak attack. Not really cricket I would have thought.

2010-01-07 08:52:00 | They are getting jumpy - Just heard about This flight being turned around (www.kgw.com) the captain made a decision to return the plane to Portland due to a suspicious passenger who made threatening remarks and refused to store his carry-on bag." AND this would have cost a pretty penny: Officials with the Portland Air National Guard Base's 142nd Fighter wing said two F-15 jets were scrambled at 1 p.m. to escort the plane down
