1128543 2010-08-16 23:22:00 Hi, i am looking at replacing me stock CPU cooler for my core i7 860 but i don't know which one to get, my price range is around $150. I was looking at these two but wasn't sure which is better, if you can think of any others to consider let me know. i use my computer for gaming which gets the temps quite high hence the reason for the new cooler. i have the thermaltake armour + MX case.

1128545 2010-08-16 23:26:00 Personally, I dont do water cooling....just cant get past the water and electronics thing..LOL. Dont forget your will need to factor the cost of fans for the Megahalem...Should get 4Ghz if not pretty close! SolMiester (139)
1128546 2010-08-16 23:44:00 if i was to get the prolimatech i think ill use one fan at first bringing the cost to $150 same as the water cooler and eventually get a second, i was looking at a few tests with these coolers and found that the water cooler had slightly better results (by a few degrees) but during gaming the mega kept it cooler. another concern i have is will the mega be able to fit in my case because it has a 240mm fan on the side panel will this be in the way? my case is below

1128547 2010-08-16 23:54:00 I use one fan as the other side is only 2 inches from the back plate fan anyway. DeSade (984)
1128548 2010-08-17 06:28:00 so i should get the megahalem? smithinator (15240)

Why not look up some reviews of your two choices - including User comments.
Give you a better idea of the pros and cons of each.

There's this for instance:

1128550 2010-08-17 07:01:00 Be advised if your using all your ram slots like I am and your ram has heat-sinks you might have to remove a couple of them to fit it all in. DeSade (984)
1128551 2010-08-17 07:27:00 looks like the corsair is the way to go GameJunkie (72)
1128552 2010-08-17 07:57:00 i have looked up a lot of test for these coolers i found this one that actually compared the two:

www.overclock.net

In these tests they performed almost the same but the mega worked best for games which is what i will be doing. But other sites ive visited recommend water cooling.
