www.stuff.co.nz

Does anyone know if other BP stations around the country are doing this?

What annoys me is the price is already factored into the cost, therefore they are just double dipping. The greed never ends.

847725 2010-01-11 01:08:00 How can the price be factored in? it is a credit card charge most retailers normally wear Gobe1 (6290)

The cost is already passed on to all their customers as part of their retail business, is it not?

847727 2010-01-11 01:11:00 Many online computer retailers charge a % fee when buying via CC, so do the ACC for that matter. As long as it is clearly advertising on the outside of the shop, so you don't have to drive in to notice themessage, I don't have problem, as CC companies charge between 2-5% of the transaction. robbyp (2751)

847729 2010-01-11 01:43:00 Heard on the news this morning, They said its not just BP its ALL credit card transactions will have a charge now.

While This article from stuff (www.stuff.co.nz) is late last year, its what its all about.

Doesn't effect eftpoz or cash.

Edited: as the article says
Merchants will also be able to add the transaction fee to the cost of a purchase when the agreement takes effect by April 17 next year. Looks like BP started the ball rolling so to speak.

Happy new year

847730 2010-01-11 01:50:00 Those bp that are listed a privately owned, not bp sites. A lot of the privately owned sites stopped accepting amex, farmers cards and a few other cards 3 years ago because it was actually costing the proprietors money to pump petrol( their lost on the transaction) plod (107)
847731 2010-01-11 01:51:00 well if anything good will come out of it, just perhaps it will force credit card companies to drop their ridiculous transaction charges.
But I won't hold my breath.

847732 2010-01-11 01:52:00 Ran in to this for the first time while down in Hamilton last week, pulled in to the BP about to fill up and see a nice tiny sign on the side of the pump about the CC surcharge - would've been nice to know before then, trying to hide it on a credit-card sized piece of paper sellotaped to the side with size 10 Arial text is a bit naff .

Gonna hurt the credit card companies and banks, a lot of people (myself included) only use their CC so as to not pay transaction fees .

While I realize a fair number of computer retailers etc have done this for a long time, most "every day" places haven't - supermarkets, petrol stations, etc . If it's going to become the norm then it simply means I'll cancel my CC and just use eftpos .
