| 1130217 | 2010-08-21 07:00:00 | Hi all, My parents want a new laptop and have a budget of $1000. They need it for web browsing, email and iTunes etc. I currently like the look of the Toshiba Sat Pro L500 (ascent.co.nz) but am open to other options. What kind of laptop would suit their needs (preferably Asus or Toshiba :))? |

Celeron would do too but some people may not like it :D The linked one looks sweet. Bro is on a similar boat, migrating from a PC (!). No experience with ASUS, Toshiba is good I think, Thinkpads great too but more corporate than Joe/Jane consumers. They also use them in Space and Daytona :p Plus Omega (!). |

We run all Toshiba's, both for business and personal use, never had a issue. The Toshiba L500, we are running one, it is on and off planes, packed and unpacked, turned on and off near enough every day and has never missed a beat. |

| 1130220 | 2010-08-21 23:23:00 | I got my daughter a L500 and have had no issues with it..I have a Sat for circa 2002 still running fine on the original P4M 1.9... The linked unit looks great for the price, builtin webcam and mic, lots of RAM, new O/s, sweet laptop, great battery life would be the only knock...2-3hrs max! |

| 1130224 | 2010-08-22 05:46:00 | for what your parents want to do with it, $1000 should go a long way. Just dont get one from an electronics store, got to the manufacturers website or trademe, youll still get all the features and warranty/support that you would from an electronics store, and at a lesser price. I looked on trademe for 2 weeks finding the right laptop for me, and eventually scored a bargain for less than $1000. (specs below) |
