1129967 2010-08-20 10:29:00 I already have Win7 x32 so it can save me some money.

Looking at getting a used thinner laptop. 4GB RAM is max so I would benefit some with a Core 2 Duo 1.5Ghz. The ultraportables tend to have a slower CPU than it's larger cousins.

Thought ...

Cheers ..

1129968 2010-08-20 12:17:00 Whats your question?

To be honest you're unlikely to notice the difference between 3GB and 4GB... Save your money and spend it on a CPU / GPU before anything else ;)

1129969 2010-08-20 12:24:00 Thanks, just wanted to know whether I would be disadvantaged having a supported 3GB instead.

Cheers for the answer :)

1129971 2010-08-20 13:06:00 It would not make a lot of difference but it may depend on how many slots are available and what they can take. If you have two slots I would just go for 2 x 1 giving you 2 Gigs RAM or 2 x 2 giving you 3.2 or so Gigs usable. No need to get 2 x 2 in my opinion or get Win7 64 bit for that matter. 1129972 2010-08-20 13:19:00 You probably don't want to turn a system that's been powdered....might interfere with the whole electricity thing!

You'll probably see more than 3GB, maybe around 3.5GB. But as everyone else has suggested, I doubt you'll see much of a difference. When I went from 2GB to 4GB it was noticeable, particularly when I was gaming. But from going from 4GB to 6GB I see no memory--related benefits at all. I know it's a different case but 3GB is still a more than fair amount of memory even by today's standards.

1129973 2010-08-20 15:11:00 You would only potentially be disadvantaged if you had a 1GB graphics card which chewed into your available memory even further, but even then there's a good chance the differences would be negligible IMO.

1129974 2010-08-20 21:32:00 Thanks.

Yeah .. 4GB is the utmost max.

With my PC I didn't care about 2x2GB so I went with 1x4GB with the hope in the future if I need I could get another stick.

Yeah .. I have x64 Win7 on the PC with antivirus/spyware and stuff, that takes up 1.5GB. Photohop takes 300MB, Lightroom another 300MB .....
