1129726 2010-08-20 02:01:00 Last night I did the normal good-night thing of pressing the sleep button on the keyboard but the machine didn't go into sleep mode properly. The power light went into blink mode (normal) but the HDD light was hard on and the fans didn't shut off. Basically it was hung so I powered off (reset button didn't even work). On powering back up the BIOS needed to be reset.

Bit of a worry. No idea what happened to cause this. Any ideas??

(mobo P5Q-Pro, 14 mths old, W7 64bit).

1129727 2010-08-20 03:11:00 The fact that hibernation has always been dodgy? pctek (84)

Oh no....how long did you give it to shutdown!..the HDD light was probably on because the system was writing to it!

1129729 2010-08-20 03:58:00 We have several users here that hibernate their white boxes and never had any trouble with them - yet.... Gobe1 (6290)
1129730 2010-08-20 04:44:00 Hibernation and sleep or standby are 2 different things! SolMiester (139)
1129731 2010-08-20 05:17:00 Are you using Hybrid sleep or not?

Hybrid sleep is hibernation, but then the PC goes into standby mode as well instead of powering off, allowing for fast resume if the PC does not lose power but still prevents data loss if it does.

1129732 2010-08-20 06:09:00 Sleep mode - not hybrid - hibernation is turned off.

It was not waiting to enter sleep mode. I know what that looks like and how long it takes.

I'm especially curious why the POST needed to reload the default BIOS.

1129735 2010-08-20 13:22:00 Found my system date was changed to 9/01/2010 at around the problem time.

check the mobo battery, on the basis that, the 9/01/2010 date is the manufacturing date of the mobo, symptom indicates total loss of power, or very nasty malware.
