| 1129522 | 2010-08-19 09:24:00 | Perhaps the drive is stuffed which would be why you would replace same. Don't format it or further play about with it. The fact that the drive shows up is a good start toward recovery. More info needed. |

| 1129526 | 2010-08-19 09:45:00 | how do i get the information off the drive and put it on my new drive in my laptop You most likely can't recover the drive yourself, sounds as if the file system is corrupted (is why it wants to be reformatted (dont do that!, you will lose everything)), take it to a data recovery specialist (like these guys www.datarecovery.co.nz ), will cost though (but if you must have your data....). Dont mess with the drive any more as further attempts will reduce the likelihood of getting any data off it. Did/do you have any recovery discs to reinstall windows with? |

| 1129527 | 2010-08-19 09:48:00 | I think you might have to put the old HD in the external case and then hook it up to a working system to find out what's going on and transfer your backup stuff to discs or other backup drive. You don't actually say whether you've put an OS on the new HD in the lappy - if not, maybe the lappy is asking to format the new HD, not the external one. |
