| 849251 | 2010-01-16 07:33:00 | Is keeping the old style kitchen wooden cabinets and just change the bench top to stainless steel. Possible? Expensive? Would it be a custom build than a new cabinet / bench tops which tend to be modulised? Not getting a dishwasher, they don't use it. Have one installed when we got the place 10yrs ago but we don't use it. I must not be the only one. So in place of the dishwasher - maybe some new cabinets and a gas cook top and new oven. First time getting something new for the house. Always just took whatever the house came with .... We are getting some quotes from some designers ...... :) While at it may get some Cat6 cables wired up ... :D |

| 849252 | 2010-01-16 07:50:00 | I just changed the panels on mine + new doors real easy to do but then that's my job. You can just change the bench top as well I didn't need to. I kept the carcass's as they were fine and saved me heaps of time and no decorating needed. All stainless tops are custom made as laminate ones can be too and usually better quality than modular tops from say Mitre10 | gary67 (56) | ||

| 849255 | 2010-01-16 09:47:00 | It does not sound too flash. Should have a look at store tomm, they bought the oven already and it is gas cooktop with a electric oven. White color, without the longer burner. Standard width oven size. We have full oven / cooktop electric as now. Dunno, what they gonna do with the dishwasher, may just leave a dummy there. They also got a real rangehood and plan to get the smoke expelled out by piping through the walls. They may wanna save money, so change the bench top only. But that would look so weird. New bench top, old brown wooden cabinets underneath and white wooden ones above. They seem to save money, so they don't need to redo the walls or the flooring. Hey if they not gonna do the walls, dunno how my cat6 cables will get through then. Start drilling series of 500mm drill bits from the top haha... |

I have a stainless benchtop round the sink. My other bits of bench were some kind of nasty plasticy '70s stuff. Husband has replaced one with a lovely slab of macrocarpa and is working on the other........... |

| 849258 | 2010-01-16 20:57:00 | I wouldn't get rid of the dishwasher space as it could affect a future house sale. Most people like dishwashers and having to remodel a kitchen to create room for one costs $ and may put people off. If the dishwasher wasn't used because there were only small loads to be done, then consider getting a set of F&P dishwasher drawers; very easy to do small loads and economical. |

They more into the wok cooking stuff hence the gas cooktops and the proper rangehood to really suck the smell and expel it out of the house. We don't have that much stuff to clean anyway, not a real oven user unless it is a big occasion. They tend to use the wok and then some serving bowls and plates that's about it. Resale value .. hmm .. ok keep that in mind. Folks are at retirement age anyway so resale is not really a thing ...... They not into them. They think hand washing is less fuss and quicker. They can clean anytime they need. |

| 849260 | 2010-01-16 21:57:00 | At the mo, it appears to be a new cooktop (gas) and oven (electric) - already bought collection soon cos they charge $80 for delivery :annoyed: They also just sell, they don't install, haha, well I guess they may have referrals but you know about conflict of interest eh ... A new stainless steel sink and benchtop maybe, not sure on cabinets. The current sink has gaps in it from the top rim at the sink to the benchtop and it is from 60s or 70s when the house was built. The insinkerator is also too old that it does not work, and it blocks whenever we wash dishes. We actually have a plunger under, in the kitchen cabinet. It's not just grease, times you cannot even keep a running tap ........ Put up with that for 10yrs since we had the house, nothing was renovated. Fixed the odd leaking tap but thought more than that was a larger job .... til now. Maybe it's near their retirement age. Oh the house has no thermal insulation and appears too much hassle to rip walls out and install them but drill a small hole and pour those peddles in doesn't appeal to them. Not the most heat efficient home, typical NZ house :D May look into a heat pump for the lounge in the future with the discount scheme thou, bedrooms will just use heaters I guess. With the Wellington wind and rain, when we get a gust of wind the curtains even move and we feel it, with closed windows. |
