848749 2010-01-14 06:15:00 I am wondering if anyone can help me with this?

I was recently up to the Homer Tunnel/Gertrude Saddle area taking photos of the Mt Cook lily (it isn't!), also known as Giant Mountain Buttercup (and it's not that either!). The Latin name is: Ranunculus lyallii.

But what is it's Maori name???? Can anyone help with this?

TIA :)

848751 2010-01-14 06:22:00 Searching Google suggests it doesn't have a maori name,

I strongly suspected that. Those look quite definitive - thanks for that.:)

My more knowledgible botanical and horticultural friends couldn't seem to come up with anything that could be confirmed.

848755 2010-01-16 07:38:00 Newsflash! Update!

The Reed Field Guide to New Zealand Fauna & Flora by Brian Parkinson (2001) says it is:
Kopukapuka.

Which does seem a little odd, as I can't cross reference it on the Net. :(

848757 2010-01-16 08:02:00 Seems to be a conflict, it says that is the Chatham Island Forget-me-not, as do other sources. So the Reed Field Guide seems to be in error. Terry Porritt (14)
848758 2010-01-16 18:55:00 Terry - I agree .

So - we'll miss the Maori name for the moment . There will be others at the meeting that are more knowledgable than me . Watch this spot . . .
