1129890 2010-11-22 08:06:00 [update] Ok, so for the last month & a half all had been going well and then... BOOM! BSODs started to reappear with gradually more frequency then finally PC failed to start at all (totally wouldn't get past the black loading screen).

So we took it to the local PC tech to fix, they didn't fix the underlying problem, but did roll back to last known good configuration, so at least its operable. Now these last two weeks the BSOD are returning and the frequency between are closing: my guess is we are close to being on borrowed time before it packs up again.

I've tried a windows update - but that didn't seem to list that as a driver that needed updating? 		sooby (15023)
1129893 2010-11-22 08:14:00 Those files are system files not drivers (thats just what that program calls them). But those files are the cause of the crashes. Whatever updates are on the windowsupdate site, install them then reboot (besides programs you dont need (Live messenger, silverlight, Malicious removal tool) Speedy Gonzales (78)

1129895 2010-11-22 08:23:00 Install any updates on the windowsupdate site. Then reboot once it finishes, That may update them. What KB's appear on the windowsupdate site? If you click on the link to the KB, it'll tell you what files it updates Speedy Gonzales (78)

updated a few days ago & still had a freeze & maybe one BSOD - just checked now & there are no updates available.

1129897 2010-11-22 09:07:00 Well you can either reformat / reinstall or open a command prompt and type sfc /scannow, if youve got the cd put it in Speedy Gonzales (78)

if I type in 'sfc/scannow' do I need the installation cd on hand? Think its buried away somewhere and need some time to find it

1129899 2010-11-22 09:23:00 I'm pretty sure you need the cd, in case those files are damaged. Unless it was preinstalled? Or point it to the I386 folder on the hdd (but if that doesnt work, you may need the CD) Speedy Gonzales (78)
