2010-11-22 08:06:00 | [update] Ok, so for the last month & a half all had been going well and then... BOOM! BSODs started to reappear with gradually more frequency then finally PC failed to start at all (totally wouldn't get past the black loading screen). So we took it to the local PC tech to fix, they didn't fix the underlying problem, but did roll back to last known good configuration, so at least its operable. Now these last two weeks the BSOD are returning and the frequency between are closing: my guess is we are close to being on borrowed time before it packs up again. Here are the last few BSOD error reports: error 1: ================================================== Dump File : Mini112110-01.dmp Crash Time : 21/11/2010 7:17:59 p.m. Bug Check String : DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Bug Check Code : 0x100000d1 Parameter 1 : 0x009a92e4 Parameter 2 : 0x00000006 Parameter 3 : 0x00000000 Parameter 4 : 0xba6e5e61 Caused By Driver : USBPORT.SYS Caused By Address : USBPORT.SYS+1ae61 File Description : USB 1.1 & 2.0 Port Driver Product Name : Microsoft® Windows® Operating System Company : Microsoft Corporation File Version : 5.1.2600.5512 (xpsp.080413-2108) Processor : 32-bit Computer Name : Full Path : C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini112110-01.dmp Processors Count : 1 Major Version : 15 Minor Version : 2600 error 2: Dump File : Mini112010-02.dmp Crash Time : 20/11/2010 11:00:42 p.m. Bug Check String : PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA Bug Check Code : 0x10000050 Parameter 1 : 0xfc709d59 Parameter 2 : 0x00000000 Parameter 3 : 0xbf839e30 Parameter 4 : 0x00000000 Caused By Driver : win32k.sys Caused By Address : win32k.sys+39e30 File Description : Multi-User Win32 Driver Product Name : Microsoft® Windows® Operating System Company : Microsoft Corporation File Version : 5.1.2600.6033 (xpsp_sp3_gdr.100831-1644) Processor : 32-bit Computer Name : Full Path : C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini112010-02.dmp Processors Count : 1 Major Version : 15 Minor Version : 2600 ================================================== error 3: Dump File : Mini112010-01.dmp Crash Time : 20/11/2010 7:45:22 a.m. Bug Check String : IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Bug Check Code : 0x1000000a Parameter 1 : 0x36680016 Parameter 2 : 0x00000002 Parameter 3 : 0x00000000 Parameter 4 : 0x804dbda3 Caused By Driver : win32k.sys Caused By Address : win32k.sys+6b603 File Description : Multi-User Win32 Driver Product Name : Microsoft® Windows® Operating System Company : Microsoft Corporation File Version : 5.1.2600.6033 (xpsp_sp3_gdr.100831-1644) Processor : 32-bit Computer Name : Full Path : C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini112010-01.dmp Processors Count : 1 Major Version : 15 Minor Version : 2600 ================================================== error 4: Dump File : Mini111910-01.dmp Crash Time : 19/11/2010 8:02:18 p.m. Bug Check String : KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED Bug Check Code : 0x1000008e Parameter 1 : 0xc000001d Parameter 2 : 0xbf805274 Parameter 3 : 0xb42bebdc Parameter 4 : 0x00000000 Caused By Driver : win32k.sys Caused By Address : win32k.sys+5274 File Description : Multi-User Win32 Driver Product Name : Microsoft® Windows® Operating System Company : Microsoft Corporation File Version : 5.1.2600.6033 (xpsp_sp3_gdr.100831-1644) Processor : 32-bit Computer Name : Full Path : C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini111910-01.dmp Processors Count : 1 Major Version : 15 Minor Version : 2600 ================================================== error 5: Dump File : Mini111410-01.dmp Crash Time : 14/11/2010 8:44:23 p.m. Bug Check String : KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED Bug Check Code : 0x1000008e Parameter 1 : 0xc000001d Parameter 2 : 0xbf81b6f0 Parameter 3 : 0xb1187b94 Parameter 4 : 0x00000000 Caused By Driver : win32k.sys Caused By Address : win32k.sys+1b6f0 File Description : Multi-User Win32 Driver Product Name : Microsoft® Windows® Operating System Company : Microsoft Corporation File Version : 5.1.2600.6033 (xpsp_sp3_gdr.100831-1644) Processor : 32-bit Computer Name : Full Path : C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini111410-01.dmp Processors Count : 1 Major Version : 15 Minor Version : 2600 any ideas? | 1129891 | 2010-11-22 08:09:00 | The files - alongside caused by driver, are the cause in that post. Windows isnt up to date is it? | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2010-11-22 08:12:00 | cheers speedy, so how do i update this win32k.sys driver? I've tried a windows update - but that didn't seem to list that as a driver that needed updating?

2010-11-22 08:14:00 | Those files are system files not drivers (thats just what that program calls them). But those files are the cause of the crashes. Whatever updates are on the windowsupdate site, install them then reboot (besides programs you dont need (Live messenger, silverlight, Malicious removal tool) | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2010-11-22 08:16:00 | hrmmm... cheers for that, appreciate it heaps. so any idea how I repair or update them so no more BSOD?

2010-11-22 08:23:00 | Install any updates on the windowsupdate site. Then reboot once it finishes, That may update them. What KB's appear on the windowsupdate site? If you click on the link to the KB, it'll tell you what files it updates | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2010-11-22 08:50:00 | Install any updates on the windowsupdate site. Then reboot once it finishes, That may update them. What KB's appear on the windowsupdate site? | 1129899 | 2010-11-22 09:23:00 | I'm pretty sure you need the cd, in case those files are damaged. Unless it was preinstalled? Or point it to the I386 folder on the hdd (but if that doesnt work, you may need the CD) | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
