1129850 2010-08-21 12:42:00 If you want to be sure that none of your problems stem from Windows software
'glitches' just boot your machine temporarily from a Linux live CD like Puppy...or Linux Mint.
if they don't crash then your problem lies in the Software Son!
Personally I would get rid of the big K, get NOD32 (I know you just renewed, but never mind) or MSSE if you want free. Maybe you could try a reinstall?

1129851 2010-08-21 12:45:00 Have you uninstalled Kaspersky yet?? If you haven't uninstall it now. We'll soon find out. Another thing we may have to check is whether there are any drivers under upperfilters and lowerfilters in the registry. Because, if Kaspersky is installed, one of its drivers can end up here. 1129852 2010-08-21 12:53:00 thanks guys

Im a little too sleepy eyed to coherently uninstall Kaspersky & install MSSE right now, will attempt it first thing tomorrow tho!

Again I can't express my gratitude enough to you guys for all your advice, it really means heaps to me. Let me know if I can ever return the favour, should you need house plans, or renovation advice etc :)

well the improvement is instant! I've only installed the drivers and the overall speed of the computer is very noticeable, and no crashes yet either.

Will swap antivirus programs next and see how it performs.

thanks guys!

1129857 2010-08-27 05:32:00 [UPDATE]

Have contacted Kaspersky with a list of my problems with their anti-virus software, and they are happy to refund after offering no help to fix the problems.

Also went to download microsoft security essentials and I get re-directed to a screen that says "Not available in your country or region, You appear to be in a country or region where Microsoft Security Essentials is not available. Thank you for your interest in Microsoft Security Essentials."

what am I doing wrong?? I tried both the MS website direct & also thru download.cnet.com

Any ideas??

1129858 2010-08-27 05:35:00 Is the country in windows set to NZ? It definitely is available here, and you should be able to download it. Did you get it from here or try to?
