848802 2010-01-15 10:10:00 Now I like my silicon as much as the next person but I wouldn't mind a decent thermionic valve amplifier as well... Agent_24 (57)

If that is truly what you aim for, why not start with bagpipes?

For true valve sound, you must also have radial leaded, BTD coded , mud resistors and wax covered paper capacitors .
A pictured apple with a chunk out of it prominently displayed would probably go down well with this golden-eared clientele too .

848804 2010-01-15 19:02:00 Spam warning ;)

A mate of mine (Phil (www.stormav.com)) sold his store in Mt Eden to Eastern HiFi a few years ago.

He recently opened a store (http://www.stormav.com/) in Parnell (12 - 18 months ago?), selling top-end AV gear (because that's what he knows inside-out).

He gave me a tour of the shop a couple of months ago and I sat in some of the demo rooms to have a play with the expensive toys and listen to/see the differences in equipment. Heaven!

He even had a valve amplifier (they ARE still being made) for around $2-3K which provided absolutely AMAZING sound...

Small world I know Phil as well. Did you ever meet Peter Munt who worked with Phil at Smiths Sound. Peter was my Best man. I guess you know Phil through Cycling as he was a keen Cyclist.

848805 2010-01-15 20:03:00 I haven't met Peter, but I have known Phil and his wife for years, both through cycling and through the local primary school board. A good bloke! But he's gone over to the dark side recently - he's doing more mountain biking than road cycling... :D johcar (6283)

I guess he's buying a Mac as well then.

Although I have both types of bike and ride them both when I feel like it

848807 2010-01-15 21:37:00 Looks like the top hi fi shop here in chch will be the only place in nz where you can get top quality stuff since everything else is closing down apart from jb hi fi as well. Hitech (9024)
848808 2010-01-15 21:49:00 About 15 years ago I used to work for this mob:-

They are still about and have some good gear.

I have no financial interest in this company for the record.

Have you never left your neighborhood?, There are HiFi shops all over the country, Not as many as a few years ago but thats probably due to their customer base wising up.
