2010-01-12 13:24:00 | Think it was an Epson. The most frustrating thing was the damn print-head wouldn't come to rest in the space so you could get to the damn cartridges, Just had to keep hitting the button, The damn print head would roar all over the place for a good few minutes, stop, start, hum, jitter jatter, and then come to rest in the worst possible spot. So you either hit the damn button again so it could repeat the routine and end up in a different yet equally as useless location or you just grab the damn thing and force it to where its meant to be. Then once you re-seated the ink cartridge that was giving the error the damn thing had to go through some crap arse, loud as hell, buzzing all over the place crap for a few frustrating minutes before telling you the ink cartridge isn't present. So you hit the damn button The damn print head would roar all over the place for a good few minutes, stop, start, hum, jitter jatter, and then come to rest in the worst possible spot. etc etc etc.... Thus it duly and rightuosly punished :badpc: A man of your experience should KNOW BETTER than to hit inert items with hands.:badpc: :)

2010-01-12 17:31:00 | And the secret for me,was to get rid of colour printer, buy a mono laser printer, gone for two years now and still going, then all colour printing done off site and save a fortune as well as all that frustration. | Cicero (40) | |
2010-01-12 19:37:00 | On the other hand I have an HP printer which I bought when I was running Win98SE. It still works under Win 7 64 bit. I never have liked all in one printers. What model? I had one for 8 years, alas it finally ate itself. My current one did the fail at a crucial moment recently. It decided 2 of my quite new cartridges were stuffed - not empty, stuffed. WHo knows, maybe they were but it took forever, I got the black but as it was right on Xmas had to wait for the other. Driving round friends printing essentials off theirs wasn't fun.

2010-01-12 20:07:00 | I have a Canon MP500 (Scanner/printer) sitting in the garage that has only had the original cartridges in it. Free to a good home for anyone who would pay freight or pick it up!!! Enough of the sales pitch! I have had a Sony 6x4 dye sublimation printer for some time and use it for printing when I have 1or 3 print to do. A year ago, I went to buy new cartridges for the Canon and found it was cheaper to buy a Brother Laser printer for $129 from the Lemmings. So, now I am happy. The Brother says it will do approx. 2500 pages on a toner cartridge and this is really all I want! Ken

2010-01-12 20:16:00 | This thread made my day I though I was the only person around who got infuriated with printers. Seem to have it sorted now with 2 reliable printers brother laser and a hp colour 3in1 which the kids only use for important school homework. Lexmark grrrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhh Christ it was satisfying listening to the thud as it went into a skip bin. Got NEC pin printer at work its at least 14 years old goes good.

2010-01-12 20:20:00 | I have a vintage Epson that delights in going through cleaning cycles at every conceivable opportunity. (If I was gullible enough to use Epson ink it would have squirted away an immoderate fortune by now.) Does an excellent job for printing photo's. I also have a multifunction Canon that saves a lot of desk space, it prints a couple of times a week For heavy duty printing there is a Lexmark laser that does double-sided colour printing with great economy. It has a bunch of toner cartridges waiting to be needed, but alas it is very slow to warm up, and also warms the room most effectively. The beast was purchased to handle the Dragon's printing needs of 10 ~ 15,000 double sided fliers a couple of times a month. That is no longer needed so it eats up a lot of real estate to print an occasional manual. What a shame there is no practical replacement for the dot matrix that was always ready for instant printing, cost next to nothing to run and used very little power on standby. Are we progressing? A lot of people use their printers only occasionally, and when they are wanted there is an interminable wait while the thing does a flamenco dance and fires liquid gold into a sponge. Lasers take an eternity to warm up or use enough electricity to cook a meal while doing their level best to fill the hole in the ozone layer. Such is progress. Anybody seen a quill sharpener lately?

2010-01-12 20:27:00 | I still have a colour Epson from way back in the early days of Win98, most annoying thing about it is the amount of head cleaning it insists on doing before it will print when first used but otherwise it has been faultless and I can get 3rd party refills for it as well. By comparsion my neice in her wisdom went and got one of those all fangled do everything printer scanner coffee maker scanner printers and 3 hours later I am ready to throw the stupid thing in the rubbish bin and throttle her. I had access to a slightly newer Epson than what I already had but she wanted something NEW, not a hand me down.

2010-01-12 20:38:00 | I havent had any probs YET. I was surprised that Brother had standalone drivers for Win 7 x64 (without the apps) for this Brother 215-c. (came out last year). Whereas Vista x64 doesnt. Its got the drivers and the apps (which I dont need). I know you can do a custom install so the apps dont install, but why bother with a bigger download. Theyre already on XP. And it was a piece of cake installing the drivers from Win7, so I could print to the printer, which has XP on it | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
