847792 2010-01-11 23:00:00 But even Jaycar doesn't have an awesome range of components either.

For the basic stuff they're OK, better than Dick Smith for sure but if you want something more interesting than a resistor you have to go somewhere like RS Components or Farnell

Especially for semiconductors anyway. But then in that case eBay is cheaper.

I bought 8x Atmega8 ICs for about $10 NZ, you can buy ONE of them from Jaycar for $30!!

847793 2010-01-12 00:27:00 I dunno. might be a new hooters bar....That would be better than Jaycar
Lol All those old fogies (retired twits) in Nelson would complain to the council.
Does RS and Farnell have shops or do you have to buy by phone or online?

847794 2010-01-12 00:36:00 RS has a warehouse in Penrose where you can pick stuff up, not sure if you can go there and browse, I think you have to order online first.

Farnell I'm pretty sure is online only.

There are a few other shops which aren't too bad, like Surplustronics, TESA, Tradetech, Sicom

847795 2010-01-12 04:57:00 RS seem to have a strange choice of name - an encounter with their prices soon explains things.
A wide variety though (in the catalogue at least).

847796 2010-01-12 08:05:00 Do you need to be a business to buy from RS? Or can any Joe Bloggs use them? bob_doe_nz (92)

Some of their stuff is pretty expensive, though Farnell is often worse. What I buy though isn't anything special, and they do seem to have pretty good pricing for high quality electrolytic capacitors.. eg: Rubycon\Panasonic

As far as I know anyone with a credit\debit card is welcome... don't know if they accept other methods, probably do.
