850360 2010-01-21 01:56:00 Hi, a while back we have a old car that was just parked in a property, it was stolen, towing company got it and we had to pay to get it back . We subsequently deregistered the car .

A few days after it was stolen again . Some months later towing company gets hold of it as it seen driving (private sale) I think . Towing company contacts us and get us to pay .

We don't as it is deregistered . We get letter from Baycorp .

:help:

850361 2010-01-21 02:09:00 If it was deregistered, you still own it.

Did you report it stolen either time,or did they simply contact you to say it had been recovered and wanted $$.

Trust me, you don't want to piss of towies, you'll find stuff missing from your car, new dents, etc.

Insurance might cover it though.

850364 2010-01-21 02:22:00 It was reported stolen 2yrs ago with the Police.
The car wasn't even used, no wof, no registration, it just there.
They do have a lawyer they use for their work .....

850365 2010-01-21 02:28:00 It doesn't really matter how much you used it, bottom line is, if it's yours, and you want it back, pay up, or it'll end up in a crusher somewhere, or a wreckers, or the local racetrack on derby night.

My dad used to be the 2IC at one of the largest towing companies in the south island, so I know a bit about how it works :D

You surrender the number plates when deregistering so how did the towing company find you?

One of the plate was taken off but the other was tight .
Behind the plates it also had a dark marking of the numbers on the car .
The car was restolen like within 48hrs .

On the invoice it said, STOLEN CAR COLLECTED FROM . . . . . . . . AND THE THE PRICE .

We don't want the car back . Got a letter from Baycorp .
