2010-08-24 03:50:00 | Are you sure you've installed the card correctly? My soundcard has a discrete looking Molex cable that needs to be plugged in. I imagine it would be quite easy to overlook.

Most sound cards don't have a power plug unless they contain a power amplifier or have other circuitry requiring external power (like Asus Xonar series) |

2010-08-24 08:44:00 | the bass unit is powered, i have had issues with the bass unit before but the speakers are fine i have removed the base unit from the equation and just plugged the speakers into the back and it still doesn't work i have also tried my headphone in the bass unit (which always works with my other computer) but it still doesn't work, note i have tried all of this for each input on the on board sound-card i have given up on the add in sound-card (i have reactivated it in the bios) i have also done a restore to before i installed drivermax so the issues caused by that should be gone now and yet i still have no sound :( | smithinator (15240) | |
2010-08-24 09:52:00 | Sillier things have happened, but nothing is muted by any chance is it ? Either on the PC or the mute button on the keyboard ? Do you have the speaker Icon in the Icon Try, bottom Right ?

2010-08-24 10:54:00 | Well yeah lol thats what I was thinking.. I installed the drivers from the site. Realtek AC97 not ALC655. Cmedia drivers install but the system said No audio... I'll try ALC655 drivers. Windoswsupdate by the looks of it (driver update had Cmedia). Actually I think drivermax was the culprit it said it was Cmedia This support.acer.com says realtek. Which I take it is the same thing?

2010-08-24 11:30:00 | yep Thats the One. One site says C-Media, yet the manual says its the ALC655 (download.cnet.com) Realtek --- Ohhhh so confusing :waughh: Mind you - since this PC was built from spare parts (as stated in original Post) IS the motherboard the original board from that case ? Being Acer, they may have used different boards for different countries as well ??? Along those lines, Acer often use stock boards, (MSI's) so the actual make and model will be on the board someplace. Personally I usually look at the board and see if it matches what it should be.

2010-08-24 11:34:00 | Well I tried both from your site and the one I posted. Mine were Realtek AC97 so is yours lol. Even tho it says Cmedia. Somehow I think they have no idea what their systems have. The mobo according to speccy is Acer EML something. I'll have to get back in to have another look | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
