850424	2010-01-21 21:09:00	One thing we all keep forgetting isn't the dead, it's the ones that survived. The people who get assaulted to the point where they end up mangled and mutilated, even disabled and have to live with it. The numbers for this don't exist, but they are very high. If you die, people are sad and but eventually it passes. What about the guy with the mangled face who can barely chew his food - he'll never get over it. It's with him for the next 40 years. 850426	2010-01-22 07:03:00	Anyone who is getting convicted for a third time for the same offence needs to be taken out of circulation for a long time. The reason we have a high prison population is the same reason the usa does. Certain components of the population cause the crime. Basically you would have to use Iceland as a benchmark and subtract the crook components to see how the rate stacks up.	prefect (6291)

850429	2010-01-22 09:47:00	So how do you propose society deals with repeat offenders? If would appear that we either have to lock them up forever or execute them in order to stop them re-offending. Serious offenders should of course be they are locked up for a very long time, that's exactly what they do with them now. Deterrence may not work, but having psychopath who are repeat offenders walking our streets just waiting for them to strike does not make any of us any safer . When scum is locked up we are safer . I guess everyone who disagrees with the liberal agenda is an idiot? I don't see you proposing anything useful other than the regular prison doesn't reform people . Well we all know it doesn't . But it's a place for scum to rot . I worked in Courts and Prisons for a long time and at least I tried to do something to make the country a safer place . I agree the Graeme Burton's of this world should never get out of prison, but those types of people are an very small portion of the prison population, not the majority as some people here seem to think .
