1130947 2010-08-23 09:40:00 Good minds think alike -- But the Audio should work OK on the Sound card now According to the Manuals wording (www.imagef1.net.nz) wainuitech (129)
1130948 2010-08-23 09:43:00 I disabled it but im still not getting any sound Try going into the the Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Settings / Audio Tab , make sure they are set to the Sound card. ( this is for XP).

Are you sure the sound card actually works ?

Also what is the Sound card make/model ?

1130949 2010-08-23 22:23:00 Can Drivermax screw things up?? I dont know, I've never used it (probably never will, if it gives you the wrong drivers )

Because no matter what I tried, the only things that appeared in device manager under sounds were the audio/video codecs, and the rest of the entries (except the soundcard)

It looks like Drivermax picked it up as a cmedia soundcard, but obviously its not. Because the sound didnt work (even tho it appeared under sounds).

And we couldnt get rid of the bloody cmedia entry in add/remove programs. Even tho it said it had removed it, after 3 reboots it was still there!

So, since the cmedia sound entry / drivers wont bugger off, I couldnt check the hardware ID in device manager.

So we may remove the other soundcards today and see if we can get the onboard working

1130950 2010-08-23 22:39:00 Wouldn't use driver max to locate drivers -:groan: The actual onboard drivers , as snorkbox put in post #11 are CMedia. But they may be the wrong ones if drivermax got them. The Real Acer Drivers (support.acer-euro.com)

One possible reason for the sound card not showing - as per my previous post
Are you sure the sound card actually works ? Even if the onboard sound was on, and the sound card didn't have drivers it should show in the device manager as a unknown device at least.

1130951 2010-08-23 23:02:00 The Cmedia entry that did come up (after Smith changed the soundcard) was the same as my Leadtek x6 sound (Cmedia CMI8738/C3DX) I think it was. But this one has a connection. that'll give you digital and SPDIF in/out. Dont know if this is what Smith installed. BUT that driver didnt work either (unless the speakers were plugged into the wrong socket). The last soundcard Smith installed must have been faulty. It froze the system, and it wouldnt boot again. So, told Smith to remove it, to see if that'd fix it Speedy Gonzales (78)
1130952 2010-08-24 00:43:00 Having 2 sound cards is not an issue unless some program decides to output to the wrong one.

I have 2 sound cards in one of my PCs, no problem.

Note I have had experience with C-media before. They can be quite picky when it comes to IRQs. If using a shared IRQ you will usually have all sorts of problems.

Make sure the Sound card if it is a C-media gets an IRQ all to itself.

Is the Onboard or the Sound Card a C-media in this case?

1130953 2010-08-24 00:47:00 The onboard does use C-Media (see driver link in my previous post) wainuitech (129)
1130954 2010-08-24 01:09:00 The speakers must be plugged into the wrong output then. Speedy Gonzales (78)
1130955 2010-08-24 01:15:00 i have tried all outputs and inputs on both the sound card and motherboard none of them worked smithinator (15240)
1130956 2010-08-24 01:18:00 So do the speakers work? Have you tried them on another PC? Are they powered speakers or come with a battery? Snorkbox (15764)
