851135 2010-01-24 06:47:00 Since the on-load life of a UPS battery is an unknown number multiplied by an unknown number, as soon as the lights go out I exit all programs and shut down. Restoration of power is not always a pretty thing either (there can be a lot of power spikes and other transient effects) so I prefer to wait until the lights have been back for 10 minutes before I press the on switch.

Better safe than sorry!

Cheers

I shut down as soon as I can.
But If I am not home - **** happens !

But surely your UPS would protect from spikes?

851138 2010-01-25 06:16:00 Mine just lasted for 4 hours, but it had an 80 AH helper battery, but all it was running after a few minutes was the modem/router to keep the phone going and the radio. I guess it would have lasted another 4 hours without over-discharging anything.

UPS has a 12v 10 AH battery, helper is 12v 80 AH.
