A laser printer also has a powder called developer (basically iron filings) in your drum unit. This has some toner in it. So If your toner cartridge is out of toner, the machine will start to "drag" toner from the developer putting the balance out of whack. I think these machines are great considering how little they cost. But just a recommendation after you have bought say 3 toner cartridges I would not buy another one, as the drum will soon need replacing (very dear) and the machine will start jamming more often (needing a lube etc) So I think that you are better off to buy a new machine rather than a fourth toner cart. Thirdly I just bought a refilled toner cart from Cartridge World. The guy in the shop who I trust quite well as I have bought colour ink carts off him for years, says there is much more toner in their refills than a genuine Brother cart. Also be aware that sometimes the first toner cartridge they give you does not have as much toner in them a new genuine Brother one. Regards Digby |

| 849742 | 2010-01-21 03:25:00 | Common Metla ! So now laser printers have toner, developer, drums and ink ! |

| 849749 | 2010-02-15 20:31:00 | Had parked this thread so I can refer to it later as I had recently purchased MFC 7340 laser printer. Today it indicated I needed to replace toner so taped over the sensors and back working again. I suppose I will have to pay attention to the actual quality of prints now to make sure I replace (or refill) when print quality starts to lighten. Thanks for this thread metla |
