| 1131566 | 2010-08-25 11:18:00 | Hello all! I did a search here . An old thread did not answer my questions so I registered and started this . I am helping a friend - actually we collaborate but I know more as he is something of an amateur . . First , his audio died . I have been trying a lot of things to fix it and exhausted most avenues . But before I find out about the audio (SuperMax Digital audio - drivers seem OK) I'd like to find out if another device is the problem . He runs Win XP with a cobbled system . I have run an AIDA32 report on his system so can answer most hardware inquiries . Under Device Manager in System properties of My computer - there are big yellow check marks beside "other devices" = ATM network Controller . No driver installed . AIDA32 shows very little info but does have some info PCI / PnP Network Device Description Type ATM Network Controller [NoDB] PCI Intel PRO/1000 MT Network Connection PCI This may be something obsolete and unnecessary or may be the source of the audio problem . The audio listings in device manager all seem OK and drivers OK . Control panel settings also are all OK . The audio worked before and then suddenly stopped working - he can't pinpoint the exact time or event . Ran Malwarebytes nothing relevant - there were some bugs but I removed them not sure the relevancy . Step I'm at now: Can this ATM Network Controller have anything to do with the audio or is it just some obsolete modem function that came with this cobbled system ( He uses Telus DSL modem) . Perhaps this formerly was a modem device? I don't know what function it has . The computer was bought second hand and cobbled and got some my help in software etc . In order to get the serial number and manufacturer of this device I have to open the case and look for it, Haven't the foggiest of what or where to look for it . The Aida Report and Device manager have no info on this device or not much . Net search is not much help . Also, I guess I will have to find serial num and other info on the actual audio device inside the computer - again I have no idea what and where to look . I am software programming expert but not hardware . I will use that info to find if a more up to date driver will help . If drivers no help and ATM controller is not relevant then I must install different audio "card"? and try - I have an old computer and probably could cannibalize it but I will need some help to do that . I have degree in programming but I am not a hardware guy, though I know a few things . ---- Well first step - the ATM Network Controller - how do I get started on this thing? I can give more info about computer if necessary . Thanks if any can help . |

| 1131567 | 2010-08-25 11:22:00 | Double click on that ATM network Controller entry / details tab (in device manager). Change it to hardware ids. Highlight it / ctrl-c then paste it here - ctrl-v. Or paste it into google. We'll soon find out what it is. Something maybe written / etched on the mobo in between the slots |

| 1131568 | 2010-08-25 11:44:00 | Hi Speedy: Thanks I may have anticipated you: I wrote down everything I could find in that entry (which wasn't much). But I didn't "double click" maybe that's why I ended up writing down these numbers labouriously. Is this what you want? ( I am manually typing this in from my note) Device Instance ID PCI\VEN_1392&DEV-07D1&SUBSYS_07D11392&REV_10\4&3A321F38&0&S0F0 Hardware Id's PCI\VEN_1392&DEV-07D1&CC_020300 PCI\VEN_1392&DEV-07D1&CC_0203 (OK there may have been more entries - all repetitive on the first number string and I think truncations of the number - I was tired out and I had to leave at that point - I will double check numbers when I go over again but I think I was accurate - and now that I typed it in and have softcopy I can easy replicate to full exactness.) Ok time to take a power nap - catch you tomorrow. Thank you. |

| 1131569 | 2010-08-25 11:52:00 | mm either you've mistyped something or Google has no idea what that is. Go back to hardware ids, then highlight whats there. Then press Ctrl and C to copy it. Then come back here. And press Ctrl and V to paste it. Does this have a PCI ADSL modem in it or something? | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||
| 1131570 | 2010-08-25 12:03:00 | mm either you've mistyped something or Google has no idea what that is . Go back to hardware ids, then highlight whats there . Then press Ctrl and C to copy it . Then come back here . And press Ctrl and V to paste it It didn't highlight but I didn't double click . I'll try again when I go over again - I searched google with the first part of the string and got: . drvsky . com/js/PCIVENDEVlist . txt" target="_blank">www . drvsky . com PCI\VEN_1392 Medialight Inc But not gotten much further . I will double check my numbers when I go back . Just tested my own XP system in Device Manager - I click on a tab for an item EG "hardware ids" and i get a drop down menu - Double click does not give a copy and paste operation - right click gives a "What's this? - that's all the operations I get on that . thanks EDIT-- Oh gee . I got it! - the old "invisible copy and paste" - yes - you are right using - the keyboard I can copy and paste though mouse operations I cannot . Ok will do when I see my friend probably tomorrow - but I think high probablity the number is accurate . |

Got it - thanks Modem? Probably bypassed by the new DSL Telus modem? So that would have no effect on the audio? Or?? tomorrow :) |

| 1131573 | 2010-08-25 12:18:00 | Dont think it has anything to do with the audio. If you're right with Medialight, it looks like Analog Devices Inc www.analog.com brought them a few years ago. Open the case, see whats installed in the PCI slots?? I dont think whatever this is, is onboard. |

Open the case, see whats installed in the PCI slots?? I don't think whatever this is, is onboard . Hello, OK looks like ATM thing is a non sequitor . Ok I need to see a picture of the insides of a computer . I don't know how to identify what is a "PCI slot" nor do I know how to get the Identify the audio device . Will there be something there with a serial number . already opened it up - there seemed to be only one car in a slot - for the Telus modem the audio jacked somehow straight to the mother board - but I did not take a closer inspection since I didn not know what I was looking for . The driver for the Soundmax is : Driver Description SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio Driver Date 4/9/2004 Driver Version 5 . 12 . 1 . 4060 Driver Provider Analog Devices INF File OEM . inf But in order to look for a more recent driver I need the serial number off the mother board? do I? Can the "audio device" be removed form another computer (the old one I got ) and installed on this one? I 'm not sure that "audio device" means a removable discrete part . thanks . |

| 1131575 | 2010-08-25 21:26:00 | The audio is probably onboard / on the mobo (if you look at the back of the case, there's sockets (either 3 or 6 of them). Those are the outputs / inputs for an onboard soundcard. PCI slots are white, and look like this en.wikipedia.org the pic on the right at the top You can put another soundcard in, but not if its onboard (you can't remove onboard audio) No you dont need a serial # to get drivers. All you need is the brand / model of the mobo. Or the system (if its something like Dell / HP). The model of the motherboard maybe etched on the mobo somewhere (it maybe between the PCI slots) See if PCwizard tells you what the mobo is www.cpuid.com |
