1130562 2010-08-22 06:48:00 I've been trying several times to install Google Earth onto my computer.
Unfortunately, it keeps saying I have an error and Google earth has to close.
I suspect that because I didn't want to install Google Chrome, Google won't allow me to install G.E. using Internet Explorer. Or, it may be the other way around and I.E. won't allow G.E. to install. Any Clues please ?.

1130563 2010-08-22 07:04:00 Try installing it Via the standalone installer, not the web installer.

You can download the standalone from here (earth.google.com) 13.3MB where it says Google Earth (Free version)

1130564 2010-08-22 08:08:00 Thanks for your reply Wainutech. Unfortunately, still the same problem..." Google Earth has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvienience. Would you like to report this problem ?. "
Could my I.E. security settings be causing this problem ?.

1130567 2010-08-22 08:37:00 Also do you have a separate graphics card or on board?

Adaware is not a firewall BTW.

1130568 2010-08-22 08:48:00 Lin I don't have Google Chrome installed and I have Google Earth.
Maybe if you download firefox and go from there.

1130569 2010-08-22 08:55:00 Lin, can you give us some more info on your computer system e.g CPU, Graphics, is XP up to date with SP3 etc.

It's possible that your system can't handle the graphics required by GE. I had problems initially with only having on-board graphics and had to update drivers before GE would perform properly.

I wasn't using Chrome when I first installed it, so that shouldn't be the problem. The file I downloaded is Google_Earth_CZXV.exe 7.36MB but that's an earlier version which would (should) update automatically once installed. If you need it, just let me know.

1130570 2010-08-22 09:28:00 My CPU is an Intel Celeron 1.8G, Onboard graphics, Win XP +SP3. Many of my friends have installed Google Earth without Google Chrome OK. I would like to try an earlier version of G.E.. I have been trying to install G.E. V5.2.
Oops my mistake.....my firewall is Zonealarm.

1130571 2010-08-22 09:51:00 What make of on-board graphics ? Mine was SIS650 and GE wouldn't work until I updated the drivers or firmware - sorry, can't remember exactly what it was I had to do but will check for you.

Don't know what others would say, but ZA isn't all that great and I would probably uninstall it and just use the Windows firewall in conjunction with MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) - there's a link to it on the first line of PressF1 forum.
