2010-01-22 20:57:00 | Here's an interesting quandary... Currently on the Air New Zealand Website it costs NZ$2292 to fly from Auckland to Los Angeles return mid August/September. But on the Australian Air New Zealand Website it costs AU$1270.80 (NZ$1610) to fly Sydney to LOS Angeles via Auckland return (same dates and same flights). Thats a saving of over NZ$600 to fly the additional legs from Sydney to Auckland and back!!! Are we being ripped off by our own airline?

2010-01-22 21:10:00 | Ticket prices change so much.. if you think $1610 is cheap for Sydney/LA return, what about what I paid for SWMBO to go to Napier/Auckland/LA/Vancouver and then Calgary/San Francisco/Auckland/Napier. Total price $1896. Booked it last November for travel May2010. Cheap as chips Ken

2010-01-22 21:12:00 | Am I missing something ?? Thats a saving of over NZ$600 to fly the additional legs from Sydney to Auckland and back Theres your price difference - its from Sydney to Auckland. In the post you mention Direct from Auckland to Los Angeles. Mind you Air NZ is not exactly cheapest -- When we went to Aussie last year, we went with Pacific Blue, instead of Air NZ. It was approx $650 cheaper to go with Pacific Blue, the main difference being Air NZ supplied food and drink, while Pacific Blue you had to buy it. BUT even with three of us it was only about $70 total in food in flight / return.

2010-01-22 21:19:00 | This is not the first time I have flown to Sydney to get to the USA. Last year in September we (4 adults) flew Sydney/Los Angeles/Orlando and return for NZ$5893 (NZ$1474 each) savings of about $5,000 in total over NZ Airlines. But that was a different Airline with a fares special, not the same airline as in my first post.

2010-01-22 21:25:00 | To reiterate for those who are confused... In Aussie you can buy SYD/AKL/LAX return flights for NZ$1610 from Air New Zealand In Kiwiland you can buy AKL/LAX return flights for NZ$2292 from Air New Zealand Aussies are getting a better deal by over NZ$600 + 2 extra flights.

2010-01-22 21:45:00 | Airline prices never cease to surprise me,Ch Ch to Bangkok... Brunei Air $900,Emirates $1500,Singapore Air $2100. Didn't bother with Air NZ,knew they would be most expensive.
