What's the longest cable?

850751 2010-01-22 00:16:00 According to Wikipedia, Maximum cable length of 2 metres (6.6 ft) (USB and FireWire allow longer distances.) Speedy Gonzales (78)

850754 2010-01-23 06:07:00 Alternatively, have a security system that periodically uploads a frame to online storage. Particularly if it can be triggered by motion.

Next concern is the need for a UPS, since your power supply can be switched off from the meter box outside, thereby rendering your security system useless.

850757 2010-01-26 22:32:00 Ive heard of people using 8metre USB cables for various things but It cant be good for you.

A NASU sounds like the trick if you dont require redundancy.

Very low power so its basically about 9w for the 3.5" disk drive and perhaps 1watt for the unit itself so a UPS would power it for ages.
