2010-08-26 06:47:00 | I have never used it myself, but I hear people don't like it. Situation. I can access to every Windows OS for free but only 1 copy each. My PC has Win7 x64. Someone else here may have Win7 x32 for their laptop. So they get something a bit modern. It was probably with WinXP at a guess. I'm going to receive my laptop soon. So I could install the 64 or 32 Vista / XP or buy Windows 7. Suggestions? :D It is a Dual Core ultraportable 4GB RAM - tablet laptop. I could get Vista x64, still quite modern and may look similar to Win7 but I heard it's a bit slower and chokes on the battery a bit more. I understand that for this system the difference between 32 or 64 prob won't mean much, so Vista or XP or buy Win7. Apprec your views :)

2010-08-26 07:04:00 | I use XP SP3 with all updates .... Daughters lappy has Vista Home Premium and she can keep it ! Son has Win7 (32) and likes it ... I haven't tried it yet, but happy with what I've got. IF, and it may be a big IF, 7 becomes industry standard ... then I might consider changing. :2cents:

2010-08-26 07:16:00 | Windows 7. Things to consider with either 32 or 64 Bit. Can the hardware take 64 Bit - if no then there's no other option 32 bit. There are still a lot of problems with some drivers available for hardware with 64 bit, printers for example. Does the manufacture of the laptop have 64 bit drivers for the model - once again see point 1. If you want more than 3 GB (in round figures) of RAM, you will need 64 Bit.

2010-08-26 08:51:00 | I'd personally forgo the full 4GB of RAM and get 32-bit WinXP if I couldn't use 64-bit Win7. In fact, it's what I'm running right now, even though I've got 64-bit Win7 and had it on this machine :)

2010-08-26 12:40:00 | After using XP x32 for years, I got a new lappy a couple months ago (specs below) with win7x64. When I first started using it, I felt like I was certainly in unfamiliar territory. But being determined to get used to it, I stuck with it and now I can't imagine going back to XP. The lappy came preloaded with 7, so I've had no probs with drivers etc. Its been running pretty smooth, and have only had a few problems with uncommon apps. I love it. In saying that, I would feel empty if I didn't have aero :) I'm sure win7 becoming industry standard is inevitible, and it would be great if this happes sooner rather than later. :2cents:
