852246 2010-01-26 08:12:00 Talking to a very angry Environment Waikato councilor a couple of days ago. He was saying some councilors from EW and some councilors from Matamata Piako council had gone to a meeting with the local Iwi update the Iwi on what was happening to the cleanup on Te Aroha mountain in regards to the Tui Mine. Both councils were told by the Iwi that if the Iwi attended when the meeting finished, a seafood meal had to take place. Not a cuppa and a biscuit, no, a fully catered seafood meal had to be provided. The meal was provided and the cost was $2,500,00. Now I know how my rates are wasted!!. When is Hone Key going to show some spine and stop this PC rubbish? My gut tells me he is not. Shane Jones from Labour seems to be the only politician that has a grasp of what is happening. royaloaks (8205)

852251 2010-01-26 19:58:00 Yep, NZ is heading to 50% of its GDP intaxes by 2025 is it??, How do you fix something like that, who is goning to be brave enough, i will vote for them Gobe1 (6290)
852252 2010-01-27 04:57:00 Something tells me if it was the other way round (council visiting the iwi) and they wanted a feed of, I dunno, KFC, they woulda been told to get stuffed.

Anyone who demands a specific meal as part of an important meeting, or refuses to turn up, can get stuffed IMO.

852253 2010-01-27 04:59:00 But that is what they are doing.
Stuffing themselves with food.

852254 2010-01-27 07:59:00 This is where the councilors are showing no balls.

They should have refused, attended the meeting without the local iwi and made the decisions by themselves.

If there was any flak later, just publicise the reason why the iwi weren't there.

852255 2010-01-27 09:08:00 The problem for the councils is that all this crap all comes out of Wellington and they are told that they have to do it. Doug Graham and then Helen Clark have a lot to answer for. Mind you the bunch in power now have no guts to change anything. Could be a great country with the right leadership. royaloaks (8205)
