| 851327 | 2010-01-24 08:00:00 | If you support Maori seats in parliament, why don't you support Ratana seats (well - list places) in your own party? If selecting who will represent 'the vulnerable' based on race or political/religious affiliation is unacceptable for Labour party ranks, why is it good enough - or something that you actively support - for the government of this land? Based on merit - no - based on political convenience it seems... [See: www.stuff.co.nz |

| 851329 | 2010-01-24 08:48:00 | Having race-based seats is an excrescence, religion-based seats would seem to be a real leap into irrelevancy. Why not dispense seats with toilet fresheners in supermarkets? At least that hasn't yet caused any loss of life. |

Wonder if they will do the same to Christian churchs as well who do way for social services than Ratana.. Don't be silly PaulW. The Ratana Church alliance with Labour used to bring with it all or most of the Māori seats. That is why all the pollies go up there to romance the Ratana brethren and sisterhood. What other church can provide actual seats in Parliament? Perhaps you were being ironic. ;) Having said that, does anyone know if the Ratana Church provides much in the way of social services? Compared with the Presbys or Sally Anns for example? |
