2010-01-28 19:44:00 | It has always seemed rather strange to me that you need to be physically and mentally fit to kill and be killed. On a recruiting poster: "Join the New Zealand Army, travel overseas, meet interesting people - and kill them."

2010-01-28 20:29:00 | None that I joined up with killed anyone.... A guy I worked with in Aussie had done a runner from the Navy when his boat was commissioned for active duty in the Middle East during one of the Iraq invasions, he was horrified that they would send him into a war zone, Guess he was sucked in by the propaganda, Learn a trade, see the world, sunny skies and big smiles. Oh yeah, and your a long way from home and people are getting killed, and if they get a chance will kill you. Excellent. And even worse, upon entering the work force discovered all his trade qualifications were worthless and he ended up swinging a sledge hammer in a demolition crew.

I reckon the NZ military is a token force to show our powerful masters who we side with. Just in case the **** gets really bad. And if it gets really bad I'm sure we can raise a large force to travel to some place we have no business being so they can die in large numbers. In comparison our Air-force isn't even of token status. |

2010-01-28 20:54:00 | Sorry to hear that your application was unsuccessful. :( As some of you may remember I wanted to join the NZ Army. Have been planning this since this time last year. Anyway, found out December 2009 I had very mild exercise induced asthma and was put on an inhaler. Applied the other week for the Army as a Driver and just received the above email. So how did you find out? During a medical the army required prior to joining? Does the army have a list of conditions that will exclude you from acceptance?

2010-01-28 21:28:00 | Get your heart checked out Wolf . I had asthma for years (mainly brought on by exercise) - when I had a heart bypass, my asthma cleared up and I haven't touched an inhaler since . Apparently asthma can present and appear to be asthsma but it can mask symptoms of heart disease . Heart disease isn't curable, but it is treatable, although the Army would probably not look kindly on heart disease either, but at least you wouldn't be dropping dead unexpectedly . . . .
