853132 2010-02-01 03:00:00 So you want it both ways?

You don't have asthma so you can get in the army but if they want to deploy you then you do??????????????????????????

I don't have asthma so I can get in, correct.

I would like to go overseas, but I know if I ever told them I thought I had asthma after I'd been through basic and they put me on inhalers (to make things easier for me) I know they'd never send me overseas.

And Rob is right, you actually have to ask to be deployed.

853133 2010-02-01 04:45:00 Saw the doctor, have to go do a test at the hospital to prove I don't have asthma. Can't remember the name, but they spray something and if my lungs spasm I have asthma, if they don't then I don't. He wasn't even completely sure I did have asthma as my peak flow results hadn't improved (around 500) so he's told me to stop the Flixotide preventative. --Wolf-- (128)

If you are cleared as medically fit - then may I suggest joining an Army that does some real soldiering - The Australian Army is good - reasonably close to home.
For a real military career, it is hard top beat the British Army, even in its modern emaciated form after too many defence cuts - it is still a very modern well equipped formidable force, and without doubt the Britsih Army is the most disciplined Military Force in the Western World.
Being part of a Regiment with history and Battle Honours going back to the Napoleonic wars or earlier is a great honour, and the regiment is really a family.
I served in the National Service and TA Black Watch and the Paras before leaving the Army on the completion of my degree to become airforce aircrew, and I can confirm it is a great life - if one is that way inclined.

The British Army coined the phrase; " No man is ever entirely useless, he can always serve as a horrible example to others."

Well I wish you luck. You seem to be dedicated in any event.

It may appear there was much huffing and puffing over nuffing.

That was the "exercise challenge test", whereby you either inhale histamine or metacholine or subjected to a series of exercise to determine if you undergo bronchospasm.
