852044 2010-02-10 09:04:00 Here's the accusation (forums.malwarebytes.org). :p And what they did, to catch them out. And an interview with MBAM (docs.google.com). Thats what you call an epic fail

Spent an hour reading that thread and the others.

Real eye opener

852046 2010-02-10 09:30:00 Its similar to PearPC and CherryOS, apple emulators. The guys who made CherryOS (who made it a commercial product) copied PCPear's code (which was / is free) word for word. And code from other free programs. They tried to deny it. In the end everyone found out. They went kaputt Speedy Gonzales (78)

852048 2010-02-10 19:30:00 Say what ? (www.acronis.com) Since when did Acronis start making AV programs? And A security suite ? (www.acronis.com) Speedy Gonzales (78)
852049 2010-02-10 22:37:00 Say what ? (www.acronis.com) Since when did Acronis start making AV programs? And A security suite ? (www.acronis.com) Just downloaded the trial version - the interface is quite easy to understand, and the default setttings are actually quite good -- Unlike Avast that I was testing yesterday.

Did the FULL in depth Scan with Avast Avast Finished (www.imagef1.net.nz) -- BUT the default setting were hopeless. I had to do it twice as the first time the results didn't look right - the Settings when I installed it, did nothing - if you scanned it located infections but didn't do anything with them, it wasn't till I changed them then it did something.

After the second scan - removed then installed Nod32 , Almost Instant on booting (www.imagef1.net.nz) - only going into Nod to tell t to scan the D drive . FAIL right there. Final result (www.imagef1.net.nz) I had gone out and looked at it after I got back - Nod scanned the Drive AFTER Avast had cleaned it.

I did this test twice as the first time it didn't look right - but the results were the same on both, with the exception on the second Avast did remove what it found after altering the default settings.

852050 2010-02-11 00:23:00 Crikey - looks like avast has gone the way of AVG before it; tidied up the front end, and f*@$ed up the back end!

Hooray for MSSE .

Care to try Bitdefender AV 2010? Link here ( . bitdefender . com/world/Downloads/" target="_blank">www . bitdefender . com) . . . . . Twas an old favourite of mine (first alternative to NAV back in the day) that always performed ok .

And Kaspersky is still a favourite of mine .

Would be happy to make a modest contribution to you for your time WT - many of us on here will take your results much more seriously than PC World's!

852051 2010-02-11 02:56:00 Bitdefender is next on the "to do" list.

This test is VERY basic - take an already badly infected Drive that infections have made unbootable or any AV able to repair, as that virus attacks every exe file. Clone it to have exact replicas. Then scan as a second/slave drive.

Whats interesting, so far only Norton and Nod32 have actually thrown up messages Re warning of active infections.

What this DOESN'T test is the ability to stop an infection getting started in the first place - BUT Nod and Norton may have since they detected active infections on the slaved drive.
