1131849 2010-08-26 10:39:00 I upgraded a PC running on XP to Win7 because XP wouldn't boot despite being reinstalled.

Now that Win 7 is installed and booting up fine, its now blue screening on shutdown. :S

Here is a pic of the blue screen:

1131850 2010-08-26 10:53:00 You should really do a clean install. Its probably because XP had probs thats its crashing now. Was it 32 bit XP and Win7 32 bit??

If you can still get into windows, get this

www.nirsoft.net

Install it then see what the BSOD says, and tell us / what files are higlighted in pink. Or copy and paste what it shows in here

1131851 2010-08-26 10:57:00 Try doing a memory Test, it may be faulty. Faulty memory has been the main cause I usually see for that Error.

Have a read of this page (msdn.microsoft.com(v=VS.85).aspx) - it explains the problems and possible causes / Fixes.

1131852 2010-08-26 21:11:00 Whenever there is a blue screen a dump file is created in C:\windows\minidump. You can read this file using WinDbg, all the info you need is here:

support.microsoft.com

usually just a driver error, could be the memory too as somene else said.

I think it was a 32bit XP and its now a 64bit 7. I formatted the drive before doing a fresh install.

Here is what I got from the BSOD viewer:

The error reports looks to be the same, but after I did a memory test with memtest86 it I got the two different error reports at the top. The memory test found no errors:(

1131854 2010-08-27 07:39:00 Looks like the audio drivers are the cause of one crash. Start from scratch again. Delete all partitions / create them again. Then reinstall Win7, if this is the only version of windows you're going to install Speedy Gonzales (78)

Aye? Can't I just reinstall or try different the sound drivers? I only plan to run Windows 7.

1131856 2010-08-27 09:25:00 Well uninstall the soundcard drivers. Dont install any driver / dont guess. If you know what the brand/model of the mobo is. Go to the site then download the drivers / install them. And MAKE SURE they're 64 bit drivers. Dont try and install 32 bit drivers. They wont work. Dont install any of the drivers you installed in XP they wont work. Since they're 32 bit, and you installed 64 bit Speedy Gonzales (78)
1131857 2010-08-27 11:52:00 What was the original issue with XP? Agent_24 (57)
1131858 2010-08-27 23:42:00 What was the original issue with XP?

Nope, issue with XP is that after the XP loading screen on startup, the screen will go blank "no signal" then restart again. I couldn't fix this by reformatting and reinstalling XP.
