1455263 2018-11-03 22:06:00 At present we do very well with Spark wireless broadband on the North Shore of Auckland. Did an Ookla speedtest a short while ago and we were getting 45mgs a sec download and 37mgs a sec upload. The fibre basic plan offers no advantages over that, in fact it seems that our upload speed would go down a hellava lot. With the Ultra fast fibre 100, it is said we would get speeds of up to 100mgs a sec. Now we are suspicious of the "up to", because that can mean anything. I wonder what the risks and potential benefits are? Everyone else in our driveway is getting fibre shortly - 4 other houses in total. I could wait and see how their connections pan out, but am still intrigued. Misty (368)
1455264 2018-11-03 23:20:00 I think the biggest advantage is the data cap, all the wireless plans I've seen had a restrictive data cap compared to the unlimited data on my fibre plan.
But if you're not having any issues currently then there's real no point.

1455265 2018-11-04 00:28:00 Now we are suspicious of the "up to", because that can mean anything. What that means is 100 is the max you can get, NOT what you will get all the time. Sometimes you will hit that no problems other times it will be slower. There will be faster plans = More $$$, but again there's usually a trade off, no point in paying for 200 if 95 is the max you will get.

My Plan with Vodafone FibreX MAx says "upto" 900 Mbps, just did a speed test 700Mbps, other days it struggles to get to 500, sometimes it goes over 900.

Have to agree with dugimodo --- The data cap.

1455266 2018-11-04 00:37:00 Thanks dugimodo and wainui, We have all the data we need and never get near to using it. So, it appears best to stay as is. Misty (368)

ugh. I had wireless. That's a good day. Often it's congested and sucks.

Fibre is great, on the 100 plan I got 107mbps - consistently.

It's dead stable, no issues ever with either net or phone.
Go Fibre....

1455268 2018-11-04 04:32:00 I got Fibre 100/10 now but what I hadn't realised was the laptop did not support dual band wireless and maxes out about 40 Mbps (down). An older Android tablet connects via 5 GHz wireless and gets double+ that download speed. Jen (38)
1455269 2018-11-04 04:38:00 I would also go for fibre. Wireless is fine unless there are to many on in your area as mentioned by Piroska. My 100 down 20 up works well for my uses. No issues whatever. CliveM (6007)
1455270 2018-11-04 05:17:00 Considering just about every house in our area is on wireless as there will never be fibre, we get good enough speeds to watch two different streams of programs at the same time with no buffering like the old days.

It does all we want or need and the cap is more than enough.
