1455365 2019-01-22 07:34:00 Some of us go back to the time before plastic; shopping with Mother:

Baker shops, where you would put all your purchases into a empty 20lb calico bag. Used to pull lena out of the middle of loaves on the way home.

Butcher shops where they would wrap your meat purchases in brown paper and if you were lucky, you would get a cheerio.

Groceries would be delivered to your home in cartons after you had been into the store and placed your order, sometimes you would get a slice of belgian sausage, after you had looked to see that is was fit for purpose.

Milk of course was delivered out on the street by horse and cart in billy cans and ladled out into your receptacle.

Wasn’t it great to pay in cash to, helped to learn maths.

1455366 2019-01-22 08:16:00 Heck --- if the restructured wood* that I used to panel-in the building didn't kill me, then I guess the gas from the plastic bags would have to finish me off .

*We use a stratified chipped wood that is formed into panels for our 'under-construction' or the places the customer doesn't see . It's really strong - sometimes glued up with plastic - er, stuff . It's not the old 'chipboard' but called "OSB" .

Oriented strand board (OSB), also known as flakeboard, sterling board and aspenite
in British English, is a type of engineered wood similar to particle board, formed by adding
adhesives and then compressing layers of wood strands (flakes) in specific orientations .

1455367 2019-01-22 09:21:00 There's a coincidence, saw a program on Discovery channel this afternoon showing how they make OSB.
The machine that shaves the Aspen (a type of poplar) into flakes was fairly impressive.

1455368 2019-01-22 17:18:00 OSB is available here too as part of a RAB rigid air barrier system and for flooring. I came here about 5 years ago. Europe and the UK have been using OSB for over 20 years. gary67 (56)
1455369 2019-01-22 19:48:00 My whole house is made of triboard which is a NZ developed product (I think) comprised of a thick OSB panel sandwiched between two thin layers of MDF to create a nice finish.
I'm not sure I'd buy a house like this again, but it has it's advantages and is very strong. My insulation is not made from plastic bags though :)
