Have you noticed, if you lose one of those socks, it will be one of the expensive ones, not the free ones? Murphy again.

grrrr
a huge wooden bin full of buy 1 get one free socks in the warehouse
go to pay, and find its only one of the types of socks in that bin that had that deal. Just so obviously misleading .

I believe Murphy has a rule covering that. A corollary is that after you throw out the odd sock, it's twin reappears. :(

Nope. They are ALWAYS somewhere, stuck inside a sleeve, dropped down the side (or back) of washer, in the dryer stuck to the sides with static, on the floor where you dropped it carrying the wash in...

We've done that many, many times.

That "somewhere" is a bit of a broad definition. A sock that is not where you are at the time when you need it is like a horse you can't catch. They may be in a different dimension, possibly in a different entanglement - socks are definitely quantum agile - but due to limitations in foot agility imposed by nature a foot in a state of socklessness when the matching foot has a sock is going to involve oaths and imprecations of a nature to upset many small gods if the temperature is low or the trustee of the above mentioned feet is due to be elsewhere - shod. Rounding up strayed socks can be harder than herding cats. ;)
Probably related to the s0K bug, daylight saving, metric foolishness and politicians.

1455488 2018-11-18 20:40:00 The missing socks are the same place as your missing keys & that thing you cant seem to find. In a spooky 6th dimension

or , your neighbor has one of those cats that steals socks off clothes lines & takes them home.

1455489 2018-11-18 21:05:00 I buy socks in packs so there's no issue finding a matching pair, but I do always seem to end up with 5 socks from a 6 pack...
I liked the blackadder explanation, he was stealing the Princes socks and selling them.
