1452863 2018-08-20 02:35:00 Vodafone UltraHub has some small firmware issues, but they'll get those sorted out soon..

Is that still having issues ?

1452865 2018-08-20 02:58:00 Re: the diff ISPs they are pretty much all the same price within $1-2 per month once you take their price and the discounts and average it out per month. Skinny and Slingshot often might be cheaper for slower plans but can be more expensive for others. Fiber optic Skinny is more $$ than Spark.

We have been with 2Degrees and they also supply a better router (Fritz!Box) than the others. We don't buy routers anymore. 2D also offers supergold card discounts too.

1452866 2018-08-20 23:41:00 Thanks for all the replies. I wonder where Chill could've got to? I did go through his blog, but thought with the passage of time something new might've cropped up - hence the request for feedback.

Why not try the ISP supplied router , rather than what may be spending on something you possibly dont need.

If you have a local server or need to open ports, then you'd seriously consider something else.
I do take the point of going with the one supplied, but I have a home server and occasionally do port forwarding. I wonder if I can somehow use my Gargoyle router? Which Chill helped me setup a few years ago now.

"Tp-link Draytek Vigor 120 combo . With Gargoyle installed on the router (WR941ND)"

Depends how it was initially all setup .
On the ISP new router : set a DMZ pointing to the gargoyle/TPLINK Wan port adress . Easiest way, worth a try . Note that some ISP routers wont DMZ properly (seen it) .
Harder : if the old setup was bridge mode . . . . wont be so easy but might be do-able .

Honestly , if it all doesnt work ,port forwards etc, then just buy another router & get rid of the Gargoyle .
If you dont want downtime (Server, port forwards etc) , buy a new router in advance & setup ready to go .

Some of the Voda/Spark home routers can have some weird issues for non-average home usage , eg some ports never forward, slow throughput with VPN's etc etc
Might have more luck with smaller ISP's routers : off the shelf routers that dont have custom firmware .

Yes you can continue to use your gargoyle router. You just give it a fixed IP address put it into bridge mode and feed it from your EdgerouterX. You have plenty of time to get ready and there are some easy to follow how to videos on Youtube. Have a look and if it appears difficult or confusing just stick with whatever your ISP gives you for free

best is what you claim you want, until you see the way too high price tag .
Then you settle on 'adequate' or 'recommended' . :)
