1452772 2018-10-15 22:06:00 STOP PRESS! --- The update to Windows 10 includes a snip which goes to the clipboard. The resolution is 240dpi, which is great. To do so the keyboard combination is Windows Key+Shift+s. Seems to beat all the ones already discussed?? Misty (368)
1452773 2018-10-16 00:48:00 That is part of the latest Windows. Its actually part of the new "Snip & Sketch"

Its listed in the Start menu.

It also has a time delay, ( same as the New Snipping tool) allows you to open windows or do some other task that you may not otherwise be able to do.

the picture below isn't from Snip & Sketch but another Screen capture I use. Jing

1452774 2018-10-16 01:20:00 The best way to get a higher resolution screen capture is to use a higher resolution screen, seriously.
Not any kind of attempt to be funny (not my best skill anyway).

I used a free one a lot at work and can't remember the name of it, but now I use the MS snip tool because the old one didn't work in windows 8.
My work PC is a surface pro 3 that has a high res screen that I find too small to be of much use most of the time so I use dual widescreen monitors from a dock.
Anyway the best screen grab I can get is by moving the image onto the surfaces own screen and capturing from there because it's higher res than the other 2.

1452776 2018-10-17 22:37:00 Tracked down the old tool, it's called Zapgrab2 and is of 2009 vintage. I don't know if that's among those you tried so I thought I'd mention it. A google search makes it seem like it's still around and has newer versions but we use it at work and only our IT department is supposed to source such things so I've never tried a newer version.

A lot of my colleagues still use it and it seems to work ok on windows 7 but for me on windows 8 I just get a black screen grab so I switched to snip tools instead purely because it was already installed with office.
From my limited use it seems they are comparable, except snip tools has a few more functions.
