Have a new 40mm 12VDC motorised valve for the pool engine room.
Need to have it to close when the solar switches on a 230VAC plug and open when that plug switches off.
The 12VDC motorised valve opens with power on and closes with reversed polarity when the 230VAC powers off.
Ok what sort of switching unit to control this?
And yes have a couple of 12VDC transformers.

1455386 2018-11-07 01:41:00 A simple relay running off a 12V transformer powered by the 230V would work. It seems a bit convoluted to me but would do the job. You can get realys that change over when power is applied or that either open or close the contacts so you just make a circuit using the relay as an on switch and choose the relay type based on when you want it on. dugimodo (138)

How does it close the valve after the 230VAC powers off?

1455388 2018-11-07 02:59:00 I was just talking about car relays that just happen to be 12VDC, you'd need to make up a cct using them so that it applies power in the correct polarity in eact state, but if you only need momentary power to open and close the valve then it's more complicated and would need a timer or something.

I'm no expert, I'm just going on electronics training from my apprentice days in the late 80s here....

Here's a crude cct that will just reverse the power to the valve when power is applied to or removed from the relay.
Not sure if that achieves what you want or not but it's just a suggestion, and a fun exercise for me. I'd suggest double checking it though, I'm very rusty.9124

also it's entirely possible I reversed the valve on and off outputs

All sorted! My Sparkie mate hooked up the Double Pole Double Throw (DPDT) with 1 x 12VDC being feed from the 230VDC and 1 x 12VDC feed on all the time.
So simple he said and it works brilliantly.
