| 1133527 | 2010-08-31 23:01:00 | Hi Team I have a fresh install of Excel 2003 on my laptop and every time I open it the 'Getting Started' pane appears on the RHS of the screen. I've looked through all of the options under Tools but can't see anything to shut it down permanently. Any ideas, or do I just have to put up with it for the first ?? number of uses? | 1133530 | 2010-09-01 01:48:00 | kahawai chasers post is what you want: 1. Click "Tools" - "Options". 2. When the "Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "View" tab. 3. Uncheck "Startup Task Pane" next to "Show". 4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box. |

I think I've been hijacked! Maybe I could try reformatting then installing a more up to date operating system, but I'm worried I might not know how to drive a more modern version!
