| 1133446 | 2010-08-31 09:25:00 | I'm looking at building a small cheap system which I mean to leave on 24/7 for a few years (well, as long as possible really). 99% of the time it would be left idle. System specs would likely be something along the lines of Sempron 140 CPU (45w), 1gb ram, etc. However I'm not quite sure what PSU to use. I was thinking about a Corsair VX450 PSU, which would be ideal, but is there anything cheaper (I probably don't need more than 200W) that offers the same quality and reliability? |

| 1133447 | 2010-08-31 09:37:00 | Quality and reliability and cheap, dont usually go together to well. To get cheap they usually dont use quality internal components. Better to spend a little more now and get a good product. |

Corsair CX-400 is around $80 mark and thats about as cheap as I'd recommend going still has a 120mm fan which is always recommended over an 80cm. |

| 1133453 | 2010-09-01 01:09:00 | Those Enermax are pretty awesome considering their price. Much better than cheap alternatives. I had some discussion about those Enermax Tomahawk on Jonnyguru forums, The 355 and 405 Watt are made on the Channel-Well PUF design and apparently aren't great for reliability, dying for no good reason in about a year. I have no data to back that up, but instead of risking it I bought the Corsair 400CX instead. Apparently the 500 Watt Tomahawk is OK though (at least, it got a good review at hardware secrets) but that is not sold here last time I checked. If you want a good quality 24/7 PSU I would suggest a Zippy. They mainly do very high quality server PSUs but also do standard ATX as well. However, they are expensive. But, they are very good. |

There are some low powered (350 Watt) PSUs that are quite good, let down only by their bad choice of capacitors. Buy one of those, and recap it all with something decent and it should be pretty good too. |
