1132828 2010-08-29 10:50:00 trying to download a linux distro(ubuntu 10.04) via utorrent on my laptop.

but 3 times in the last hour or so i lose my internet connection.

i have reset the router/modem, restored to factory settings, reflashed the firmware but it keeps droping connection.

i'm gonna get one of these (pbtech.co.nz) when i can afford it, but is there anything i can do to temporarily fix this in some way??

modem is a dlink 502T gen2 , router is a belkin wireless g

:pf1mob::thanks

1132829 2010-08-29 23:17:00 If the cause is the modem, then no. pctek (84)

1132831 2010-08-30 05:26:00 It's the router, dying under the load of torrents. Time for a new one:

Hi there
Try connecting your computer straight into the DLink router via Ethernet cable .

Are you using any splitters before Jack in the wall? If so please remove it

So your connection should be Telephone Jack --> ADSL filter --> Computer .

Disconnect any other phones you have in the house to see if it makes any difference to your connection .

Try this first - if no Good ; prob . best to replace the DLink . Which ISP are you with? Most ISP's will give U a new router as long as U sign into a 12 month contract .

Cheers!

1132834 2010-09-01 21:53:00 the dlink is just a modem which was originally supplied by telecom(ISP)

i dont think the router that telecom gives away now will be any better, but thanks

1132835 2010-09-01 22:50:00 Why not just download it from their site? www.ubuntu.com WarNox (8772)
1132836 2010-09-01 23:00:00 My DSL-502T worked fine with Bittorrent, probably still does, but I'm using a Dynalink RTA-1320 now because it gets better connect rates. Agent_24 (57)
1132837 2010-09-01 23:35:00 torrents supposed to be faster aren't they?
