Call the council, not the neighbours

City councils are fielding record numbers of complaints as residents let off steam over the dawn chorus of tui, dodgy pizza, poo-smelling manure and "hideous" new homes.

Councils suspect the growing number of gripes is because people are frightened to confront their neighbours – a side-effect of our more isolated society.

Complaints have ranged from brothels, tui song, suspected semen on a pizza, childcare centres and hideous new buildings springing up in neighbourhoods.

A green-fingered neighbour who put manure on his garden that "smelled of poo" also riled up one resident.

Yeah, but I wonder if Noise Control visited, or the council passed a bylaw banning tuis from singing within 100m of a dwelling...

Wouldn't put it past them. Councils are mostly staffed by idiots (and elected idiot officials) that couldn't get a job in the real world.

854529 2010-02-02 05:03:00 Just imagine what the complaints will be like when the population has increased by another 1,000,000 in another 15 years or so.

It's odd really, some 33 years ago when we arrived in NZ, we were struck by how New Zealanders hardly ever complained about anything, at least not out loud in public.

It took Upper Hutt City Council some 6 months to widen our road, a length of around 1km, with untold disruption to driveways etc. No one seemed to mind, or to voice any complaint..............

Slowly that changed, now everyone leaps up and down :banana

How do you know it is the original NZers that are complaining?

854535 2010-02-03 22:32:00 Dear Capt Fred Spoons
Champion Leaper & Balloonist Extraordinary

I wish to complain vociferously with regard
to a certain penguin-like robot entity.
No matter what anyone one says, this being
has a witty come-back!
Is there any way you can regulate said being?

Oh, I thought as much.

Regards
