854455 2010-02-01 19:26:00 What is a good mp3 player? 2 Gb is OK. Maybe 4 Gb. Not video, just mp3.

Does not need to be top notch Bose type audio but nothing that sounds cheap and tinny.

With FM tuner & voice recorder (seems most have it).

Under $50 would be nice.

I see a Laser on Trademe (www.trademe.co.nz) for $40, but do not know if Laser is good quality. Samsung?? Are DSE mp3 players any good?

AAA rechargeable batteries preferred so that I do not have to deal with a dedicated charger.

Thanks.

854456 2010-02-01 19:43:00 I'm as happy with my DSE MP3 player as I am with my iphone, Sure the interface is poor but I just hit play all anyway so I'm fine.Plus it has FM radio, and 2GB is plenty of storage for me. In fact due to the size, cost and ability to copy/paste media I'd rate it higher then the apple crap.

Replace the headphones (The bundled headphones were as bad as the crap ones that come with an iphone), adjust the graphic equaliser and away you go.

Mine charges off the USB port, an excellent and cunning ability.

854457 2010-02-01 19:53:00 Metla, is your DSE like this one (www.dse.co.nz)? I bought a new one like this a couple of years ago off Trademe, not DSE brand but looks the same, and it is the terrible interface that makes me want to get another mp3 player; it is frustrating going from folder to folder or into a specific folder. Sound quality is OK but not great. Maybe you have this type instead (www.dse.co.nz)? Strommer (42)
854458 2010-02-01 20:29:00 Mine is neither, Though it maybe related to either. However the interface on mine is poor. I only keep three or four albums on mine at any time. If I had to wade through an entire set of folders I would have thrown it away.....

I'm a bit iffy on audio quality in regards to MP3 players as the media is low quality to start with, You can't polish a turd or so they say. So I draw the line at a $30 set in-ear plugs and a bit of manual configuration of teh graphic equaliser.

854459 2010-02-01 20:32:00 I believe mine is A5377

Sorry, never did figure out how to post DSE links (unless they have changed the way their site works?)

Anyway, I see they have a similar Phillips item, I'd have a look at that.

854460 2010-02-01 21:13:00 I have used a DSE 2Gb MP3 player for several months now. All good, except for the claimed battery life. I think it claims up to 7 hours playing MP3 but I have only had 5 hours. Still, I only use it for commuting on my bike so it gets charged every 3rd day at work or at home. Much cheaper than the rivals. I find the earphones good and comfortable to wear.

The model is the 2Gb version of this one www.dse.co.nz

854461 2010-02-02 17:49:00 Thanks guys. I will go to DSE and have a look, although the Laser mp3 player on Trademe (post #1) is a very good price, $30 cheaper than at our local Noel L's. The only thing about the Laser is that the seller on Trademe has a heap of negative comments but these must be from an earlier time (he has been on TM for 5 years) as all recent ratings are positive.

It seems the DSE links change from day to day. My two links and the one above no longer show the item, just the main page.

854462 2010-02-02 18:47:00 You don't want all the mumbo jumbo in the DSE link, the simple link is www.dse.co.nz PaulD (232)
854463 2010-02-02 21:30:00 I have a 4gb Laser orange/white one from Noel Leeming. It does the job, but it isn't USB2, so transferring music takes ages. I don't know why its not USB2 utopian201 (6245)
854464 2010-02-02 21:48:00 DSE brand items and almost always rebranded stuff.

But sometimes they are cheaper than the same item with the original brand name!
