854155 2010-02-01 06:47:00 Turbo Pascal was great in it's day but now I would go for Free Pascal and Lazarus. Lazarus makes Free Pascal like Delphi. Using it I can choose the processor type and operating system to create a program for and I do it all within Linux. mikebartnz (21)

The disc that was before the 3 1/4 hard disc, enclosed in hard plastic.

Was about 5 1/4 sq, very thin & flexible. Hence "Floppy". Had a very thin disc inside a plastic envelope.

But i am sure you know this already!!! PJ

854157 2010-02-01 07:27:00 Yeah - I still have some old Commodore flop-drives and some games - but alas, no place in which to plug the daisy chain, nor do I have any power supplies for them any more. SurferJoe46 (51)

I always thought they were both the 5.25 and the 3.5 inch disks...

854159 2010-02-01 08:10:00 And prior to that there were 8 inch disks even.

Before that I used magnetic tape, paper tape and punched cards. :-)

Yes. I believe that the 3" was called a floppy. But. The 5" was truly floppy & flexible, whereas the 3" was hard plastic.

The 5" were the very first discs I used. Computer was bought from Dick Smiths in Karangahape Rd in Auckland. Across the road from the Lion Brewery. 2nd shop to open in NZ. WaaaaaY back. PJ
