I think anyone who donated 10 billion would have a press release... And who cares if its self promotion? I don't think the people who benefit from his money care where it came from. |

I don't think the people who benefit from his money care where it came from. Well said. And we should understand that the United States has a much greater field of philanthropy than we are used to here in NZ. Many of the US universities and research institutes wouldn't exist without charitable donations. Which is one reason for the press release. Such a gigantic commitment catches the imagination of other philantropic foundations which may join in. |

Food is required,mainly the necessities to produce it. Well......yes. So while I admire the move by Bill and Melinda Gates I can't help feeling it will only serve to contribute to the global population explosion. And that isn't good for anyone, least of all the starving victims. And yet - do we stand by and do nothing? When medicines exist? I honestly don't know the answer to this moral conundrum. |

I don't want to sound callous or anything, but with most of what's being done today for 3rd world countries, we're just making things worse for them, and eventually for us. Without education and more rights for women more and more kids will be born, far more than their parents could ever handle. Then their kids will suffer, and should they survive to adulthood, have even more kids destined with the same sad fate. What must be done is educate these people, and tell the women THEY have rights too, as much as the men. |

Give me the money and I would employ some of the best drought farmers from the likes of Israel and others,teach them how to do it,with that kind of money you would have food coming out your ears. They know that in order to have any support once they get too old to support themselves they need a few surviving children, The best way to do this is have as many children as nature gives them knowing full well that most of them may die.
