1133486 2010-09-01 21:10:00 Raid 1 will actually give you better read times as an intelligent controller will read from both drive while slower writing, RAID 0 is the other way around due to overhead depending on the type of data...and controller!

The Blue ports are the new SATA 3 controllers, perhaps you should try RAID 1 on the white ports and have single drive on the blue.

1133487 2010-09-02 02:03:00 Thanks so much for all your help SolMiester.
I'm just gona go ahead and change to a RAID 1 (with the sata 2 controller) and do a complete reinstall.
Who know's perhaps the reboot problem will go away...

1133488 2010-09-02 04:11:00 After playing around to get RAID set up on the SATA 2 controller here's what I found

SATA 2 controller
-set to AHCI = detects drives but no RAID BIOs option appears after POST, reboots properly
-set to RAID = same as AHCI

SB850 controller
-set to AHCI = no RAID BIOs option appears after POST, doesn't reboot properly
-set to RAID = able to access RAID BIOs but, doesn't reboot properly

What the heck...

I have my optical drive and storage on the SB850 as well so I might just try switching those over to the SATA2 controller.

PS it's lucky I have a broken ankle and won't be working for a month hahaha :D

1133489 2010-09-02 21:20:00 Euon, after system posts the components are show as the system cont to boot, you should see the controller bios options, something like alt+S or A

edit, here it is...make sure to have setting as follows. in the attached picture the below is for SB850

After the POST memory test begins and before the operating system boot begins, look for a message which says "Press <Ctrl-F> to enter RAID Option ROM Utility" (Figure 2). Press <Ctrl> + <F> to enter the RAID BIOS setup utility

for sata 2 controller, it is line 6&7

C. Configuring a RAID array in RAID BIOS
Enter the RAID BIOS setup utility to configure a RAID array. Skip this step and proceed to the installation of Windows operating system for a non-RAID configuration.
After the POST memory test begins and before the operating system boot begins, look for a message which says "Press <Ctrl-G> to enter RAID Setup Utility" (Figure 2). Press <Ctrl> + <G> to enter the RAID setup utility.

do you not have the manual?
SolMiester (139)
1133490 2010-09-02 23:57:00 I managed to get everything sorted out last night.

Yes, I have the manual and have been following it closely. It matches up with everything you have stated. It's just that, things were not behaving as they should of despite following the instructions in the manual.

I now have a RAID 1 on the SB850 and my optical and storage on the SATA2.
Although to get the optical/storage to appear in Windows I had to enable RAID/IDE on the SATA2 and then install the RAID drivers.
Also, it now reboots properly.

I think there must of been some sort of conflict in trying to run optical/storage AND a RAID setup all on the SB850...

Thanks again anyway SolMiester, much appreciated!
