1132698 2010-08-29 07:36:00 Having just got around to switching the router from our old Telecom connection to the new Vodafone connection, we've been having a weird issue - if the phone is plugged in, the internet works fine for a few minutes before dropping out and refusing to reconnect. After unplugging the phone it works perfectly. :confused:

In the process of changing the connection we had to switch the router from the business line (still on Telecom) to the home line (now on Vodafone).

So what's to blame - the router, the phone or Vodafone? Replacing the filter did nothing.

1132699 2010-08-29 09:25:00 I suggest trying a brand new filter of a different brand. I've seen that before where everything was fine on the old TC and played up on a new VF connection. Replacing the filter fixed that one. Do you have any other phones/fax/filters in the house? If so, try swapping filters. coldot (6847)

As already mentioned, the filter the router was plugged into was replaced. All other filters on the line were transferred from the business line and worked fine before.

Come to think of it, there is one phone downstairs that hasn't got a filter yet - because I couldn't trace the cable :p

I know telecom always rant on about if you have to many it can affect the connection.

What I would try, unplug all the phones - the internet will work as you mentioned - then plug one in at a time and see if it drops out.

Only a theory, but the business line may have allowed for more phone points, where as the home line doesn't.

1132702 2010-08-29 10:54:00 Not clued up on the details--- but we have had problems in the past with the way phone sockets are wired up. It was OK for the phone, but not broadband some sockets had to be rewired to get things working properly. Could pay to try connecting on to another socket o see if it makes a difference. PPp (9511)
